`Mysteries' takes credit for this, too

Rack up another one for NBC's ``Unsolved Mysteries.''
Fugitive Ira Einhorn's capture in France this week may not have been the direct result of a tip generated by the long-running series, but it was close enough to have producers claim Einhorn as their 153rd apprehended fugitive.

He's not even the latest, an NBC spokeswoman said yesterday. No. 154 is apparently already in custody, although details were not available.

As it stands now, ``Unsolved Mysteries,'' which was not renewed for fall but which continues to appear in reruns both on NBC and on the cable channel Lifetime, claims a 40 percent apprehension rate for the fugitives it's profiled since the show, hosted by Robert Stack, began in 1987 as a series of specials. Its record may continue to improve, as tips often come in as a result of repeat episodes, the spokeswoman said.

On a somewhat happier note, ``Unsolved Mysteries'' has also reunited 96 lost loves (a 64 percent success rate), she said.

But maybe those people, unlike Ira, wanted to be found.
