Luis Royo: Ghost King
(1995), Secrets
Damage
comparison of different bows
I have done some
calculations to compare the damage a Rogue can inflict with different bows under
consideration of the base damage.
I used 1, 10, 20 ... 90
and 100 base damage values. The massive/savage prefix and the heavens suffix of some of
the bows were set to max values: massive +110% damage, savage +125% damage, heavens +15 to
all.
The heavens suffix, the
+20 to dexterity of the Eaglehorn and the +5 to strength of the Windforce give a damage
bonus, depending on the characterlevel.

formula:
(Strength + Dexterity) x Characterlevel / 200

Bows (LWB
means: Long War Bow 1-14 damage) |
|
|
|
Savage LWB of the
heavens, these bows aren't too hard to get |
|
|
|
Obsidian/emerald LWB
of the heavens, these bows are often used by Archer-Mini-Mage Rogues |
|
|
|
Eaglehorn, not too
hard to find Unique bow. Stats: 1-10 damage, +100% damage, +20 to dexterity, +50% to hit
(actually +70% to hit), indestructible |
|
|
|
Windforce, not too
hard to find Unique bow. 1-14 damage +200% damage, +5 to strength, knocks targets back, a
very controversial feature ;-) |
|
|
|
Needler, the Needler
is quite easy to find, often dropped in all dungeon levels. Stats: 1-3 damage, fast
attack, +50% to hit |
|
|
|
LWB of swiftness, not
too hard to find |
|
|
|
Massive LWB of
swiftness, the highest possible damage of a swiftness bow. |
A note: Rogues are firing normal
bows with 0.35 seconds per arrow and Needler/swiftness bows with 0.30 sec/arrow. I used a
period of 2.1 seconds for the calculation, this means: 6 arrows from a normal bow and 7
arrows from a Needler/swiftness bow.
Another note: A pure Rogue who has
a base damage of "1" cannot use a LWB, however I have neglected this ;-).

per bow per 2.1 seconds (I added percentage values of the highest damage-massive LWB of
swiftness at 110 base damage)

Conclusion
The damage, that can be inflicted with a
swiftness bow is not much higher compared to a good normal bow. However, I really like the
fast attack. Moreover, swiftness bows are in my opinion great fun and one can often stun
two witches at the same time: you shoot at a witch, a second witch tries to enter the line
of fire and both are stunned ;-).
Another conclusion: The damage a
Rogue can inflict with these bows varies widely at low base damage values (1 : 9.6), but
is compensated at higher clevels = higher base damage (1 : 1.17). This means using an
emerald short bow of the heavens is not much less effectively for a high level Rogue
compared to an emerald LWB of the heavens.
