HIV/AIDS

Non-acknowledgement causes aids in prisons

Zambian prison authorities are not putting in place preventive measures because they have not officially accepted the fact that homosexuality is practiced by inmates, says Lloyd Chilundika, the Central Region Deputy Commanding Officer of Prisons Services, in an interview with The Monitor, 25 - 31 August 2000.

The non acknowledgement of homosexuality by the Zambia Prison Service has been cited as the main cause of the spread of HIV/AIDS in prisons. 'The service has not accepted homosexuality in the prisons and this coupled with lack of a balanced diet has caused the spread of HIV/Aids in the prisons', said Chilundika.
