Mac OS X Developer Tools Update
What's New

This page provides links and information for downloading of the Mac OS X Developer Tools Update. This update was released in May, 2001, and provides an update to the developer tools that ship with Mac OS X 10.0.x. All files can be downloaded through the ADC (Apple Developer Connection) seed site; all ADC members, including free online members, can go there to obtain the update.

This May 2001 release of the Mac OS X Developer Tools includes the following additions and
updates, compared with the previous release of the Developer Tools:

  • Updated versions of Project Builder (1.0.1) and Interface Builder (2.0.1) supplying full
support for WebObjects 5 development as well as other enhancements. Read the Release
Notes for Project Builder and Interface Builder for full details.
  • Project Builder, its help and tutorials, and Interface Builder's template nib files are localized
    into Japanese.
  • Updated documentation, including:
    - new Inside Mac OS X: Performance manual
    - new Inside Mac OS X: Accessing Hardware from Applications manual
    - new Quartz Primer manual
    - new vDSP Library Reference manual
    - additional Cocoa API specification sheets
  • Additional source code examples in:
    - /Developer/Examples/AppKit
    - /Developer/Examples/InterfaceBuilder
  • Apples older IDE, ProjectBuilderWO, is now an optional part of the Developer package
installation. It is not installed by default. The ProjectBuilderWO package does get installed
by default as part of the WebObjects Developer installation, to assist in migrating projects
from WebObjects 4.5 to WebObjects 5.
Downloading

This development tools update has been split up into multiple pieces to enable easier downloading. All pieces are available for download from the ADC seed site. Each piece has been placed in a disk image for easier transfer and installation. After downloading an image, double-click it to mount the image and then double-click on the .mpkg or .pkg installation package in the image. There are four different combinations of update pieces that you can choose from:

Complete May 2001 Mac OS X Developer Tools and WebObjects 5 Developer in one disk image

  • What it is: The complete set of updated tools, libraries, headers, samples, and documentation, including WebObjects 5 Developer

Complete May 2001 Mac OS X Developer Tools in one disk image

  • What it is: The complete set of updated tools, libraries, headers, samples, and documentation, not including WebObjects 5 Developer. This does include the older, deprecated ProjectBuilderWO IDE, but it is not selected for installation by default.

WebObjects 5 Developer standalone disk image

  • What it is: Just the WebObjects 5 Developer packages. You must already have the May 2001 Mac OS X Developer Tools installed to use WebObjects 5 Developer.

Complete May 2001 Mac OS X Developer Tools split into several disk images

  • What it is: The four sub-images that make up the May 2001 Mac OS X Developer Tools. We recommend that you install all four sub-images, although it is not strictly required. You should install them in the following order:
    • DevTools.dmg - The development applications themselves, including Project Builder 1.0.1, Interface Builder 2.0.1, etc.
    • DevSDK.dmg - New framework headers, debug/profile libraries, etc.
    • DevExamples.dmg - New sample code
    • DevDocumentation.dmg - Updated documentation, integrated into the system via Help Viewer
