Children Perform CPR & Heimlich Maneuver for Congressman Kirk

The Save A Life Foundation (SALF), member of U.S. Homeland Security's Citizen Corps, trained a class of fifth graders in Palatine, Illinois on how to save a life, using basic life-supporting first aid techniques.


Congressman Mark Kirk from the 10th district, Palatine Mayor, Rita Mullins, and many other local officials and corporate leaders were in attendance to observe this vital training for consideration of incorporating these programs into schools throughout the region.


Though nearly half a million school children within the state of Illinois have received this training, it will be the first for the Palatine schools.

Training took place at the Gray M. Sanborn Elementary School, Palatine IL 60067 on Monday, November 17, 2003.

SALF Instructor, Pat Sherlock, Fire Fighter/Paramedic, instructs the children. Illinois Congressman Mark Kirk, Mayor Rita Mullins and SALF Founder, Carol Spizzirri, addressed local emergency officials from surrounding municipalities and agencies. Corporate representatives, Marty Heffron, (Government Specialist),Kevin Flynn, (Area Vice President), from Nextel were also in attendance.
