Website Design Notes (Includes Tech Stuff)

The Site is the conceptual work of Bate Cabal. It is implemented in HTML by Fra. Geh Mad with some graphic work done by Maeve.

The principle component of the site is the Black Moon Archives which was the driving reason for creating an on-line site. The Archives lists are maintained in a MS Access database. The Archive section of the site is completely generated by a Visual Basic program which reads the database and creates the HTML for the pages. This system was designed and coded by Fra. Geh Mad.

One consideration in the site design was its projected use by many folks with non-graphic browsers, thus all the archive lists are implemented twice: once using frames and tables for the high-powered graphic browsers and again as simple interlinked lists for the non-graphic ones.

Where possible, support for non-graphic browsers is maintained throughout the site although in some sections (The Virtual Art Gallery for example) this is simply not possible or practical.

The sound bytes from the CDs in the Black Moon Products section and elsewhere on the site are in Real Audio format. This is a little different from the Real Audio streaming software used by NPR, which requires the Real Audio Server. In order to play these files you will need to download the free Real Audio Player from the Real Audio Site. These files are optimized for 28.8 downloads. Of course you will need a computer with a sound card in order to play the files...

Site Goals, Agenda, and Wish List...

Implement Keyword and Subject Searches or Indices for the Archives
Fra. Geh Mad is working on creating an index generator for the Archives. (If he gets into UC's MS Degree program it will be a while...HE DID! IT WILL!)
Place Archive Corpus online for direct access...
Thanks to a generous mage from OZ, the archives are currently being scanned for eventual inclusion on a CD-ROM. As they are scanned they will also be installed on the web site for online access! We are very excited by this projct...
Expand and Enhance the Sections already started
Especially the Voodoo Temple and Tibetan Buddhism sections.
