Heart Attacks: Test & Techniques - Part 1
Sam Biser & Steven J. Lavitan, D.C.
Edited By Tom Harrelson (Revised 6/9/99)
"I saw him stop my friend's Heart Attack within a few short minutes, using a few simple Massage Techniques. I absolutely
believe these same techniques may one day save the life of someone you love -- perhaps even yourself!"
Sam Biser, Editor
It was 2:30 in the morning when my phone rang. The maid of one of my close friends was on the line. My friend
had just had a heart attack and was lying in bed close to death and fading rapidly. She had whispered to her maid,
"Please phone Sam Biser and ask him if he knows anyone who can help."
Frankly, I was so upset after receiving this call that I began to shake all over and gasp for breath. I knew my friend
had only a few minutes to live and I had to do something fast. I thought of noted heart researcher Carey Reams.
Unfortunately, it's difficult to reach Carey Reams. It often takes days to get through to him and I knew I didn't have
enough time for that.
My next thought, however, was of a conversation on heart problems I recently had with a certain chiropractic doctor.
This doctor had been successfully using some new methods of preventing and even stopping heart attacks once
they had begun. I had been impressed by the depth of his knowledge and by his obvious sincerity.
Fortunately, I was able to reach this doctor in time. Within several minutes, he had communicated certain lifesaving
instructions to my friend's maid. She carried them out and noticed some immediate improvement. She told the
doctor that the patient--although still in critical condition--appeared to be stabilized and now had a better chance
living through the night.
After the phone conversation, the doctor drove through the wee hours of the morning to the community where my
friend lives. I rushed to join him. For the next three days, the doctor and I were with my friend constantly. We
never left her side.
During our stay, I had the opportunity to see the doctor's remarkable techniques and methods at first hand. The
day after we arrived, she had another major attack right in front of us. It was terrifying to see. Yet, I saw him STOP
the heart attack within 2 minutes!
Today, several months later, my friend is still not as strong as before, but she's up on her feet and significantly
better. She walks a mile and a half a day and puts in long hours of work in her business. If you were to look at her
or speak with her, you'd never guess what she's been through.
I was so impressed with the effectiveness of this doctor's methods, I knew I had to share them with you--my friends
and subscribers. I absolutely believe that these same techniques may one day save the life of someone you love--perhaps
even yourself.
When I suggested the possibility of an interview to this doctor, he declined. He said that he was not the one who
had put together these concepts, and that he had learned everything he knew through a Dr. Steven J. Lavitan of
Teaneck, New Jersey.
So we contacted Dr. Lavitan and the results in this interview on heart attacks. Dr. Steven Lavitan is a practicing
Chiropractic Physician who has authored a number of technical papers about the role of the nervous system in the
health of the body.
Dr. Lavitan is the Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical Chiropractic. Fellow practitioners come from all over the
country to consult with him about a wide variety of matters, including his views on heart attacks.
Dr. Lavitan is not a medical cardiologist, nor does he claim to be. Moreover, Dr. Lavitan does not claim to be the
originator of any of the theories or methods he discusses in this interview. Rather, he has organized and put into
his own words the materials and concepts of a number of researchers, including Dr. Bernard Lowen of Harvard
Medical School, the last Dr. J.E. Goldthwait, formerly Chairman of the Orthopedics Department at Harvard Medical
School. Dr. Hans Seyle, M.D., Nobel Prize Winner, and most notably Dr. Major Bertrand Jarnette, D.O., D.C.
In giving this interview and in discussing these methods and ideas with our readers and with his professional
colleagues, Dr. Lavitan is merely exercising his 1st Amendment Right to speak out on important public issues.
This right, according to the U.S. Supreme Court in Thomas vs. Collins, 323 U.S. 516, includes not only "the right to
describe facts, but the right to urge to action."
"THIS VERY SIMPLE TECHNIQUE CAN TRIGGER A FAVORABLE RESPONSE IN MANY HEART ATACK CASES!"
HEALTHVIEW: Please explain for our readers, what the Doctor told the Maid to do that first night, when I called him. LAVITAN: He NO doubt told the Maid to take your friend's Left Palm and massage the FLESHY section, where the
Thumb joins the Hand. He then, in accordance with the PROPER technique, told her to press HARD, first into the portion of the FLESHY Section,
then into the Bottom Portion. After she found where it felt TENDER and PAINFUL - it should feel almost as
though there is a little LUMP in the Flesh--she was to dig DEEPLY into that PRECISE spot for 10
FULL seconds, then she was to WAIT 10 seconds and REPEAT it AGAIN! He then told her to KEEP on doing
this, until it STOPPED HURTING! NOTE: Please see Diagram No. 1 & Diagram No. 2.
HEALTHVIEW: When I was at my friend's home, I noticed that when this Doctor massaged the FLESHY part of her
Palm, he immediately followed up by massaging her Left Shoulder, but why? LAVITAN: When he massaged her Left Palm, a PAIN appeared in the Left Shoulder. I know that this sounds STRANGE, but
this happens in MANY cases, providing the Left Palm Procedure is done PROPERLY!
So he went to the Pain Area and rubbed very HARD, until it DISAPPEARED! If he wasn't sure where to press, or if
there was NO PAIN in the Shoulder, he felt for a little KNOB, that's about 1 1/2 inches above the person's Left Armpit. He
rubbed HARD along the top half of the KNOB! NOTE: Please see Diagram No. 2.
After this, he checked the Pulse and if it was still very RAPID, he pressed FIRMLY--but NOT TOO HARD--on BOTH of the person's
Eyelids. He did this for 20 seconds and it SLOWED down her Pulse! NOTE: There was NO Diagram to illustrate this particular Technique in the original Newsletter.
On the other hand, if her Pulse would have been too SLOW, he banged with the FLAT part of his Fist on the person's Back,
where the Neck joins the Shoulder. He did this for 20 seconds to SPEED-UP the Pulse, if NECESSARY! NOTE: Please see Diagram No. 3.
I know this must sound ABSURD to many of your readers, but after all, Heart Attacks are so terribly SERIOUS, that
massaging the person's Left Palm and Shoulder might seem somewhat FARFETCHED! But you saw for yourself, that these Methods DO WORK!
DISCLAIMER: According the F.D.A., I must emphasize that these Methods are EXTREMELY Experimental
and that, before you consider using them, that you should get the approval of your family Physician or Cardiologist first.
Moreover, these Methods are by NO means a substitute for Proper Medical Care and should be used in conjunction
with Standard Medical Procedures, such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
NOTE: Please see C.P.R..
But nevertheless, when PROPERLY used, it looks like these methods can be of GREAT VALUE! For example, one
Colleague of mine, in nearby Newark, had a Patient, who suffered from a Heart Attack in his Waiting Room.
It happened so QUICKLY, that by the time the Doctor reached his side, the victim had NO Pulse or Blood Pressure. He
had begun to SHAKE all over and DEATH was probably just a few seconds away!
He had NOTHING to lose, so he grabbed the man's Palm! He really began DIGGING-IN and massaging
it and at first, there was NO reaction! Then, the victim began to GASP for his Breath, trying to get
AIR! The Pulse finally STARTED up, STOPPED, STARTED again and then FLUTTEREDFINALLY began to beat in RHYTHM, so that when the Ambulance came, the man recovered NICELY!
Then there was another case, that was brought to my attention. It was a 55 year old woman, who was working in a
Pickle Factory. She had seemed a little under the weather all day, but was keeping up the pace, when
all of a sudden she COLLAPSED! Some co-workers rushed over and one of them had Paramedical Training and identified
it as a Heart Attack.
There was NO Ambulance Service or Hospital in the immediate vicinity, so they RUSHED her to the
Chiropractor's Office, but by the time, that she had gotten there, she appeared to be clinically DEAD! She was NOT breathing, her Hands
and Lips were Blue from LACK of Oxygen, and she showed NO Vital Signs at ALL!
The Chiropractor judged that it might be too LATE, but felt that there was little to LOSE and he began
pressing HARD on her Left Palm (DEEP pressure on the appropriate Nodule) in the manner, that I've described and
to his welcome SURPRISE, the woman responded FAVORABLY!
Her Chest began to heave for AIR and her Blue Coloring began to change to a HEALTHY Pink and
her Pulse STARTED back up again! She had been so far GONE, that her recovery took quite some time, but
7 years later, she's VITAL and HEALTHY, has lots of ENERGY and says she has NEVER felt BETTER! NOTE: The theory behind these Techniques isn't really IMPORTANT, but what is IMPORTANT is that this relatively SIMPLE
technique TRIGGERS a FAVORABLE response in MANY cases!
"THIS HEART ATTACK TEST DOES NOT COST ANYTHING; YOU
DO NOT NEED ANY EQUIPMENT AND YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF IN 15 SECONDS!"
HEALTHVIEW: What is your theory of why this works? LAVITAN: Dr. Major De Jarnette developed these Techniques over 40 years ago (60 yrs. now), that I'm
describing in this interview. My theory of why they work is based on the FACT, that your Heart and other Organs
have NO Pain Receptors. When an Organ is in TROUBLE, your Nervous System sends the Signal to some
POINT on the outside of your Body. The outside of your Body is like a MAP, and each section represents a different Organ.
The Nervous System records Messages from your Heart primarily on the FLESHY part of your Left Palm. It also records
them on your Left Shoulder. So that when your Heart is in SERIOUS trouble, the Muscles in these 2 areas begin to go
into SPASM!
When you press HARD on the appropriate Nodule in the FLESHY part of the Left Palm, you RELAX it.
This Signal travels back through your Body along the Nerves to the Heart and to the parts of the Nervous System, that regulate the Heart.
As you saw, this technique can HELP a person to SURVIVE the aftermath of a Heart Attack and may
even ABORT a Heart Attack, that's already STARTED! One final, but very IMPORTANT point about the
Left Thumb Pad should be made, pressing HARD on the appropriate Nodule could give you a WARNING
of a coming Heart Attack, so that you can HEAD it off!
HEALTHVIEW: How does digging into the Left Palm give WARNING of an oncoming Heart Attack? LAVITAN: When you press HARD into the FLESHY part of the Left Palm and it feels
TENDER or PAINFUL, you're in possible DANGER of having a Heart Attack!
If the TOP part of the Left Thumb Pad is where it HURTS, then the Blood Vessels going to your Heart
are CONSTRICTING, CUTTING OFF the Blood Supply and REDUCING it's Oxygen! If the BOTTOM part is
where it HURTS, then the Arteries in your Heart are getting "CLOGGED UP"! NOTE: Please see Diagram No. 1.
If it's just a little bit TENDER, the possibility of a Heart Attack may EXIST, but this is more REMOTE! But if
you say "OUCH, that really HURTS," and you have to STOP, because it's so PAINFUL,
then the chances are GREATER, that a Heart Attack may occur! Of course, if you suspect that you have a
SERIOUS Problem, then you should IMMEDIATELY check with your Physician or Cardiologist! There are
many things that could be WRONG and one of them, for example, is a Pulmonary Embolism, a Clot in your
Lung. Something like this is SERIOUS, and requires PROPER and PROMPT Medical Care!
I particularly like this Heart Attack Test, because it's QUICK and it doesn't cost ANYTHING;
you don't NEED ANY Equipment and you can do it yourself in 15 seconds!
"WHAT TO DO, IF YOU THINK THAT YOU ARE
SUFFERING FROM ANGINA!"
LAVITAN: By the way, in some cases the person will have a "DIAGNOSED" Heart Condition--usually Angina--and yet the Left Palm
will NOT be painful. This is because MANY cases of Angina (Heart Pains) may NOT be TRUE Heart
Conditions, but simply a misplaced Rib! The misplaced Rib may CAUSE Muscle Spasms, that feel like a Heart Pain or Heart Attack. NOTE: According to Dr. Lavitan, this viewpoint is also shared by the eminent Cardiologist, Dr. Wilfred Shute.
There are several uncomplicated Procedures, that you can use to adjust a misplaced Rib. If these Procedures bring
results, your problem is OVER and if NOT, then you probably have TRUE Angina. There are a
number of "diagnosed" cases of Angina Pectoris, that are NOT Angina,
but are actually a Muscle Spasm caused by an out-of-place Rib! To determine if this is your problem, locate the area of your pain.
Then press on the Rib in that area with about 10 pounds of pressure, while you inhale and exhale 5 times.
If you wish, you may lie down and have someone do this for you. This Procedure quite often DROPS the Rib into
place and STOPS the Heart PAIN!
If this does NOT WORK, then you can roll-up a Styrofoam Pillow and place it against the Bone, that joins together
the 2 Halves of the Ribcage. Hold the Pillow in position and lie down on your Stomach for 10-20 minutes per
day. This will allow your Chest Muscles to RELAX, thus easing your "Angina" PAIN! You could also go to a reputable
Chiropractor to have the out-of-place Rib put back into place. NOTE: There was NO Diagram to illustrate these 2 particular Techniques in the original Newsletter.
