Format:
Reading for this course is essential to promoting good class
discussions and the assignments must be done every week according to the
schedule listed on this syllabus. Please bring whatever texts we
are reading to every class meeting and come prepared with comments or questions
on the assigned material.
Writing:
Three analytical essays based on the reading material on topics to
be assigned are required of each student. These position papers must be
double spaced with textual references typed on a separate endnote page.
The deadlines for these writing assignments are listed on the syllabus.
No late work will be accepted except for special circumstances or with
a note from your class dean. You must make arrangements with me to

Grading:
Papers will be graded for depth, accuracy, insight, and use of evidence.
Grading will be based on the following point scale: 45 points for papers;
20 points for midterm examination; 20 points for final examination; 15
points for class participation.
