at Northern Illinois University

April 5-7, 2002

Keynote Speaker:
Dr. Joseph Carroll is a professor of English at the University of
Missouri-St. Louis. He is the author of THE CULTURAL THEORY OF MATTHEW
ARNOLD, WALLACE STEVENS' SUPREME FICTION, and EVOLUTION AND LITERARY
THEORY. His presentation will critique the poststructuralist paradigm,
offering in its place a theory of literature that situates literary
criticism within the matrix of Darwinian evolutionary theory.

Call For Papers:

Please submit one page abstracts for 10-page papers (each presentation
should be approximately 20 minutes) by January 14, 2002.

Abstracts on any topic in film, language & literary studies are welcome,

including:
British & American Literature (any period)
Film Studies
Ethnic & Cultural Studies
Gender Studies
Evolution & Literary Theory
Science and Literature
Critical Studies
Genre Writing
Rhetoric & Composition
Linguistics
Stylistics & Discourse Analysis
Cognitive Studies
Popular Culture
Creative Writing
Technical Rhetoric
Composition & Computers
Cyberstudies

In addition, MCFLL 2002 welcomes abstracts submitted as potential
panels. If you and your colleagues share an interest in a topic, please
submit it as a panel. Please note that these submissions will be treated
as a single unit, and all abstracts must be submitted together and
clearly marked for panel consideration.

Abstracts Deadline: Postmarked or e-mailed by January 14, 2002
Guidelines for abstracts:
- 1 page (including a title but no author);
- a cover letter that includes: (1) paper title, (2) your name and
address, (3) your phone number, (4) e-mail address, and (5) school
affiliation.
