I want to make a difference.

I was born and raised on a Liverpool council estate.

There was no way out. No hope, no inspiration, no new horizons.

The estate was poor, the schools were poor, and the people were poor.

Then one day my parents were given a gift. That gift was the right to but their own council house, and the giver of that gift was Margaret Thatcher.

My parents never looked back, they were empowered to choose their own destiny, it was a helping hand that guided them onto the first rungs of the ladder.

That is politics making a difference in the lives of ordinary people, it’s the kind of difference I want to be a part of, it’s the reason I want to be an M.P.

Whenever I speak to residents they tell me the same thing over and over again; we have paid all our taxes but why are there no police on the streets? Why are the hospitals so dirty and over-run with MRSA? Since when was it OK to put pensioners through the indignity of means testing?

No wonder people are fed up and don’t trust politicians anymore.

As your M.P I wont promise that I can change these things overnight because I can’t, and you wouldn’t believe me if I said I could.

I will promise you this though – that I will work hard for all the values we share, decency, integrity, compassion for those in need, and doing the right thing.

If those are your values too, I very much hope that we can work together to make that difference.
