The Flying Pygs operate G-APYG, a 1950 vintage DHC-1 Chipmunk. We are a group of six and operate out of White Waltham Airfield, which is the home of West London Aero Club, and which is situated about 10 miles due west of London Heathrow Airport.

Of the six of us, there is one current British Airways Captain, two retired BA Captains, a retired air traffic controller and myself and one other current air traffic controller.

This page will hopefully develop in the future with stories and pictures of 'YG.

To be going on with, you'll find some pictures of 'YG here.

Recent Items

'YG has recently been out of service (again) for a few months but is now back on-line and looking very smart following a renewal of all the fabric. It was a time consuming (and moderately expensive) job but the results speak for themselves and the new fabric looks absolutely first class, many thanks to Jim and Pete who did the bulk of the work. At the same time the C of A was completed and she is now ready for a good summers flying.

Have a look here at an outstanding radio controlled model of 'YG, built and flown by Chris Lawson of Launceston, Tasmania.

Ever thought about having a picture of your Chipmunk painted? Click on the image below to find out more about the excellent work of Rob Henderson.....

Came across this on-line Chipmunk listing recently. An older version of the page can also be found here.

See 'YG in miniature!!!

A few more new pictures at the link above.

Two new picture galleries started. The first is just for Chipmunks, the second for other interesting snaps of aircraft taken by myself.

Came across a web based message board directed at Chipmunk owners/pilots etc recently. Looks like it could be quite a promising way of exchanging info.

Click here to go to WarbirdsOnline then click on the Forums link to see the message board.

Air Cadet flying at No 12 Air Experience Flight, RAF Turnhouse circa late 1970's. Ahhh nostalgia, those were the days.

Brief air traffic control page added.

Chipmunk in print. A small selection of known publications featuring the Chipmunk.

Links page added.

Help support Hanley William Airfield by writing to your MP to express your concern about the conduct of the recent planning appeal. A letter which you can use to form the basis of your own can be found here.

'YG featured in Aviazione Sportiva, an Italian General Aviation magazine. Read all about it.

In August 2000, for the first time, I took 'YG to the de Havilland Moth Club's annual International Moth Rally at Woburn Abbey. See and read all about it.

Another annual event, but one a bit further away, that I had the pleasure of attending back in June 2000 was Sentimental Journey. This is the Vintage Piper Aircraft fly-in to the home of the original Piper Aircraft Factory at Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, USA. A brief description of the trip and some photo's are now on the web site.

The 'YG group members are all keen supporters of The Chipmunk Club.

Feel free to drop me a line.
