10.17.03: Server woes
Our current ISP is not able to handle all the traffic we are getting currently. So you will notice the site is slow, the overnet forum is down, and registered users will sometimes get the message "problem validating registration" We are moving to a new provider soon that should fix all our current troubles. Sorry for the inconvenience.

9.11.03: New Design
Thanks to Sven Kohn for the great new design. As you can see we have combined the eDonkey and Overnet sites. The logo in the upper left is temporary. We will have yet another logo contest to find the permanent one. Please post your submissions in the download center.

We are still filling out some of the documentation.

Please let us know if any links are broken.

Also our long loyal customer support person and man-about-the-donkey Paul Reinheimer (Pktloss) is moving on to bigger things. You can say good bye to him in this thread.

New version (0.47)
4.03.03 - So much has been fixed it was amazing it worked at all before. Fixes bugs causing corruption. And uses far less connections. Warning, you will have to update your skin if you are not using the standard one.

Any etree.org users out there?
3.27.03 - If you know what etree.org is and also use the donkey we need your help. We are setting up a special server just for etree people. But in order to get it off the ground we need people already on the server and sharing things. So if you have valid etree shn files please and I'll tell you how to connect to the etree server. Thanks.

There is also a new Mac version and linux version on the download page that fix the crash in .46.

New Version (0.46)
3.18.03 - There is a new version on the download page. Many fixes and improvements. There is now a plugin system so all you programers can extend the donkey.

Download Center
2.26.03 - We just created a new edition to the donkey community, the eDonkey2000 Download Center. Anyone can post files there that they created or that are in the public domain. Use it to spread the word about your band or children's book series or anything else you produce. Get great eDonkey skins and tools there. We are looking for a logo for the site (maybe also a new name?) submit yours here.

New Version (0.45)
2.17.03 - There is a new version on the download page. There are a lot of fixes.

On another note if you are in the NYC area you should checkout Bishop Allen tomorrow at 7PM at the Mercury Lounge. I'll be there so come say hello to me.

Hybrid Vigor
1.28.03 - When you cross two distinct subspecies their offspring usually exhibit what is called hybrid vigor. Meaning the offspring are stronger and smarter than either of the parents. This is what we have done with the new version of the donkey. It is the product of a donkey and some sort of jellyfish. Anyway it is on the download page so please check it out.

There have been many, many changes and fixes. This one should work much better than v35.16.61. We also change the version number scheme to be the same as Overnet's. So this version is 0.44.

It is possible to run it as just a donkey client. Just delete the contact.dat file. (I don't know why you would though)

New Donkey Version in Alpha
1.09.03 - We have a new version of the donkey currently in testing by a small number of users. We should have a public release of it sometime next week.

Donkey Future
12.03.02 - We have just released a fairly solid version of Overnet. It is working really well at this point. Now that Overnet is stable we will be doing some maintenance work on the donkey. We wont be abandoning the donkey since there are certain uses that it is better suited for, namely trading files in small private groups. But most of you want to use a large public network and for this Overnet works much better. So I encourage all of you to switch over to that network.

Also my good friends Bishop Allen just released their first CD. I highly recommend it. You can get some of their songs on the Donkey: Busted Heart, Things are what you make of them, and my favorite Little Black Ache.

We are hiring
9.18.02 - We are looking for another programer and an intern if you are in NYC please look here.

Happy Birthday Donkey!
9.06.02 - Yes, yes the donkey is 2. After I get done celebrating I'll try to put out another birthday clip.

Fake version 62
9.03.02 - A certain German website has released a fake donkey version. They have also redirected the banner ad so they are stealing from us. The current donkey version is 35.16.61.
Anything claiming to be higher is fake.

Overnet vs. eDonkey2000
7.31.02 - Many people are wondering what will happen with eDonkey2000 now that there is Overnet. The both networks will continue to exist separately from one another. Once Overnet reaches a stable point, development will resume on the donkey. Both programs will continue to be supported as they serve slightly different needs. Registration will work with either program.

Forum Upgrade
7.25.02 - The forums were finally upgraded. They are much faster now. Many old threads were removed. There will be an archive of the old forum put up somewhere soon. Big thanks to Markus Döhr for doing the upgrade.

Overnet public beta
7.19.02 - So at long last I think Overnet is ready to be tested by many people. Overnet is the new serverless version of the donkey. It uses the same download mechanism but you no longer have to try and connect to a server.

Also everyone should check out Transmission Films. It is the independent film arm of the donkey. The site is launching August 1, but we are posting daily news, updates, and promotions. You can submit a film for distribution with the Transmission machine by emailing us at

Server relocation
7.16.02 - Our servers suffered a rather unsmooth relocation from California to Florida. This one is back online obviously but the registration server has yet to come back up. So you will get problems validating registration for the time being. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Finally Shirts
7.07.02 - At long last you can get those smooth eDonkey2000 t-shirts you have always wanted. I of course still encourage you to just make your own. But otherwise get them here. Thanks to everyone that sent in designs.

Overnet.com
6.18.02 - As many of you already know, for the past months I've been working on a new network. It will be called Overnet. It is currently in Alpha testing. There will hopefully be a public beta (along with a webpage) sometime next week. In keeping with MetaMachine tradition I'm putting out a request for logos. Please send your designs for the Overnet logo to
.

Security Update
6.5.02 - An security exploit in the windows GUI client has been fixed there is a patched version on the download page now. That is the only thing that has changed from v35.16.60. Thanks to Shane Hird for pointing it out to us.

Email Virus
5.31.02 - A new email virus is making the rounds. Claiming to contain an update for the eDonkey client, it is in fact a virus. Please check the source of any file you receive unexpectedly. For more information on the virus polluting the eDonkey name visit Symantec Security Response

New Web Pages
5.30.02 - The community news page has been introduced, this page will provide news on eDonkey tools, developments and such. The documentation section is currently undergoing revision, with many new additions.

Funny Ha Ha
5.21.02 - My friend just finished his first full length movie. I have a very brief role in it. I suggest you go to his site and buy lots of copies.

There is a new version of the Java controller on the download page.

Please take this quick poll.

Move Delayed
5.7.02 - The IRC move was delayed slightly as the code fix was tested. These tests are now live, and all appears to be well. Barring any unforeseen complications, the move will be completed within the next 72 hours. We thank both our users, as well as the admin's at both Liquid and Asylum during this move for their patience and assistance.

New IRC Network
5.6.02 - We have found a new home for the donkey chat. Thanks for all the offers you guys sent in. We will be moving to LiquidIRC. The move should take place late tonight.

Donkey Chat
4.24.02 - Well I got an email last night from Asylum-Net saying that they can no longer host the donkey chat. This is unfortunate but we thank Asylum for hosting it for so long.
We are in the process of finding a new IRC server.

Design Our T-shirt
3.13.02 -So we are finally going to make eDonkey2000 T-shirts. But first we need a good design. So we are taking submissions. Please send them to . If picked, your design will be worn by millions (well at least by a few people).

Also there is a new version of the Java Controller on the download page.

Cydoor
2.18.02 -There are now two versions of the latest Windows client on the download page. One serves the banners using the Cydoor ad-network. I know they have gotten a lot of bad press and accusations of being spyware, but as far as I can tell they aren't. They collect no personal information all they do is serve up the banner at the top of the donkey. If anyone determines that this is not true please let us know and we will remove them immediately.

The reason we choose to use them is that we are making virtually no money from our previous banner system. Anyway we left the non-cydoor version up there for those of you that are really bothered by them. But if you are not please use the Cydoor version.

New Version
2.7.02 -I put up a new version (v59). It basically fixes a few bugs that would cause your internet connection to die after awhile. If you can download it with the donkey here: eDonkey59.exe (This won't work if you don't have the donkey installed)

NYC
1.17.02 -I decided to relocate to New York City instead of Boston.

Goodbye
1.13.02 -As I'm sure many of you already know Webmisstress Geraldine "Gowenna" died in a car accident. We are all saddened by this and give our condolences to her family and friends. We will miss her presence in the eDonkey community.

Relocation
1.10.02 -So MetaMachine is packing up and moving to Cambridge, MA. I sorta hate to leave the Bay when everyone else is. I feel things are going to get real nice here this year, with the rampant unemployment and all. Anyway it will take me about a week to haul myself across the country. So email response will be a bit slower than normal. Once I get to the new place we will be looking to hire an excellent programmer. If that is you send me your resume.

Update
12.30.01 -It has been a long time since I posted any news so I just wanted to reassure everyone I'm still working. I'm trying desperately to get a new version out. It is going very slowly but it is almost ready. I made a rash move and switched the UI from MFC to an open source framework called VCF. It still has some bugs that need to be fixed. Once they are taken care of there will be a new release.

Dynamic Server List
11.30.01 -The server list is now generated dynamically. That means that the servers listed are more than likely actually running. It wont be in its fully glory until the server operators upgrade to v38.

I also put up a new server version. Not much has changed it was made mainly to work with the new server list.

Back
11.27.01 -I'm back. I'll be putting up a new server to handle the registrations hopefully this week. This should end the "problem validating registration" message those of you that registered are getting.

There has been talk of how v56 downloads faster than v57. If you find this to be the case or if you get a lot of unasked sources with v57 then set "line down speed" in options to what your downstream speed is.

Out of Town
10.28.01 -I'll be out of the "office" for the next four weeks. Don't worry I'll still be working. I'll probably post some pictures of my trip to make up for the lack of webcam. I've been working like a dog the past two months. The sad part is I know it seems like I've been on vacation. There should be some nice improvements coming. There is rumor of a new totally decentralized client. I also want to thank everyone who has registered. You are keeping the donkey going.

Java Core Controller build 2
10.23.01 -There were some fixes to the Java controller. The command line client has been updated for the Mac. So the controller can now be used with it.

Java Core Controller
10.18.01 -There is now a controller for the command line client (core) written in Java. The controller is able to connect to and control a running core. It can control a core running locally or remotely. Thanks to David Qiao for making it.

Mac people you will have a GUI when the core gets recompiled.

New Name
10.08.01 -I've been thinking of giving the donkey a new name. Maybe I won't do it. Regardless what would you call it? Enter your good ideas to the right.

New Server
9.20.01 -We are adding another webserver so the webpage should be more responsive soon. Once it gets sorted out everyone who registered will stop seeing "problem validating".

Linux GUI Client
9.14.01 -There is an alpha test of the Linux GUI. It can control a command line client running locally or remotely. All thanks to Tim Müller. Please post bugs here.

Gator
9.10.01 -The donkey now comes bundled with Gator. You can simply uncheck the box on the installer and it won't get installed. Sorry everyone.

Donkey Birthday
9.08.01 -Happy birthday everyone. I can't believe it has already been a year. There are so many people I want to thank for their positive feedback, encouragement, and for supporting and fostering the donkey community. It is really great that you have stuck by a young weak donkey as he slowly got stronger. That you didn't abandon him when he was sometimes sick and not able to get up. I think the next year will bring a lively and vivacious donkey for everyone.

So drink a beer for the donkey!

Banners and Cydoor
9.05.01 -So far I've gotten exactly 0 dollars from the three different banner networks I've gone through. So I was thinking of using Cydoor. Does anyone know a good reason I should not do this? I see it mentioned as "spyware" but it doesn't seem to track anything as far as I can tell it only seems to download banner ads from their servers? post your thoughts here

New Windows Client
8.25.01 - Here it is. It fixes some memory leaks and other bugs. The chat is now IRC so everyone can chat no matter what server they are connected to. I sorta gave up trying to estimate your line speed. So now there is a place in options where you can enter it. It wont be necessary for most of you but if you get a lot of sources that are 'unasked' and you can be downloading faster then set it.

If you have an older client you can get the new one from the donkey to save me bandwidth.

Thanks all testers for the good bug reports. And Steven Price for writing the IRC client. And of course AsylumNet for hosting the donkey chat rooms.

New Linux Client
8.24.01 - I just put up a new Linux Client. I will be releasing the v57 Windows GUI on Monday or before.

New Server & Mac Client
7.12.01 - The new server is now indexing the files so searches should be much faster and the server CPU load should be less.

There were some bug fixes to the Mac Client.

Donkey Beautification
7.03.01 - There are a lot of complaints that the donkey is ugly or that the UI needs to be improved. It would be nice if some of you graphic designer types would make some icons for all the various buttons. Also please send any mockups of how you would like the UI to look.

Mac Client
6.28.01 - We have finally gotten a Mac client running. It only runs under OS X. And the irony is right now we only have a command line version. There should be a version with a GUI coming shortly. Thanks to Darko Svitek for doing the port.

Test Version
6.20.01 - We have put up a test version. We need to test this client isolated from the rest of the donkey community. So there is also a test server set up. If you get the test version please stay only on this server.

Further Tweaks
6.13.01 -
Download speed continues to be poor because clients are no longer uploading as efficiently as before. This new release should fix that problem and get downloads moving again.

New Version
6.7.01 -
We just released a new windows client. Once the majority of people upgrade, download speed should be good again.

Note if you have a low ID and you change servers you will get assigned a new ID. This means you will be removed from all queues and have to start over. So you should try to stay on the same server.

Protocol 16 take 2
6.3.01 -
Ok so a few bugs slipped though testing. I put up a new version which should fix the extended search bug and make downloading a bit better. I'm aware that there are still some major bugs that need fixing. I will hopefully hunt them down tomorrow. Maybe next time more people will help test. :)

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Protocol 16
6.2.01 -
Well after many delays, here is the new version. We had to change things with the protocol so the new client and server is incompatible with previous versions. Your downloads should continue fine from the old version however. The Linux client is also back.

Thanks to Jani Forssell for making the server list.

Update
5.16.01 -
We are finally on a dedicated host so hopefully this means an end to our constant problems with the webpage. I should be working full time on the donkey again on Monday. So I will finally be able to finish protocol 16 which will make transfers much smoother and improve searching servers.

We are going to change the chat in the donkey to use IRC. Discuss this here.

And we hope you like the new look.

Flaky webhost and Overloaded servers
4.21.01 - The ads brought the voice.net machine to its knees (they still rock for hosting the forums though) and it seems like my new web host can't handle them either. I will move them somewhere else or change they way they are done to go easier on my host soon. In the mean time you will get some Arabic page or Forbidden or server not found or some other nonsense.

Also it seems like people are having trouble connecting to servers these days. Omnisofa had to be taken down. I think ocbMaurice also was taken down. So please if you can set up a server and help keep the community strong.

I had to take some contract work that is why I've been slow about fixing things lately. I will be back full time soon.

Happy Birthday Liz.

New release
4.14.01 - Some of the new features:

Ads: I really hated putting them in but I think in the end it will be better for the community. There won't be any porn, popups, or spyware. And I'm paid by impression so only click if you want to.

New UI: I've made the User Interface very customizable. Anyone can now create skins for the donkey. Many thanks to zeroidea for his UI that is in the current release.

Links: It is now possible to create links in HTML that will add servers or start downloads in the donkey. Example: add Omnisofa server download Bush drunk at a wedding

This week I'm going to start working on a new method of transferring files. It should improve download speeds and file completion.

New Web Host
4.06.01 -
.com is back up thanks to Voise.net and Bas van Oers. This service should be much more reliable than our previous host.

New UI
3.30.01 - The next release of the donkey will have a UI that is configured by HTML. It will allow anyone to set up the interface in anyway they like. It should make the donkey look much nicer. It would be cool if some of you graphic designer types out there would make a slick interface for the "official" donkey skin.

Here is the test of the next release. I would install it to a new directory. It is only meant to be used to design a new UI. So don't try to use it to download anything. There is still a lot of work to be done on it but I'm letting it out now in hopes that someone makes something cool with it.

New Versions
3.21.01 - There is a new version of the donkey client and server. The new server mainly fixes a few memory leaks. The client improvements are:
New window that will tell you when your donkey is out of date and other important info.
AVI importer
Bitrate info for mp3s
Fixed some problems with proxies
Fixed other random bugs
Fixed some memory leaks
Fixed bug when 0 search results were returned
Server preferences are saved again.

Pberetta set up an eDonkey2000 IRC channel
irc server asylum-net.org or random asylumnet server
channel #edonkey2000

Spirt Bomb and BSOD set up an alternate donkey forum.

Also should I sell advertising?

Forums Back
3.05.01 - The forum is back. Thanks to Bas van Oers and Voise.net for hosting it.

I know many of you have been having trouble connecting. Akira is full and there is a bug causing new servers not to be found like they should. This is fixed I'll probably release it tomorrow. In the meantime check this thread in the forum.

New Version
2.27.01 - There is a new version of everything on the download page. I've made big changes to the way clients talk to extended servers. Servers should now be able to handle many more clients and servers that are no longer up will fall off the list.

Everyone must upgrade. You can install over the previous version.

Programmers Programmers
2.16.01 - I would really like some help programming the donkey. I've given up trying to find some one around here. So if you know C++ and have a fair amount of free time please email me.

New Version: There is a new client and server on the downloads page. Send message is finally back in. You can also ignore people in the chat now. There is also this nifty advanced search feature now. It is scriptable so you can make your own. I put a few in there that might be useful. I haven't written any documentation about it so you will just have to try to figure it out for now :).

Server Stuff
2.15.01 - Server Operators please set maxVersion=2000 in the donkey.ini so test clients can connect to you. Also please send me an email so I can let you know when there is a new server version and whatnot.

Many have noticed how hard it is to get connected to the main server these days. That is because it is getting full.

We are still looking for a good server. HotOnion was nice for a while (thanks to Ulrich Fechner) but it had to be taken down. We need a dedicated PIII or faster machine that I can either VNC or telnet into with at least a 500kbit/sec upstream connection. So if anyone has one laying around and wants to dedicate it to the cause please let me know.

Our current webhost is very unreliable as you have probably noticed. If anyone knows of a better one please let us know.

New Forum
2.13.01 - We changed to a new forum. The new one seems to be a lot better. Unfortunately it will be too much trouble to import the messages from the old UBB one. (Unless someone knows an way to do this). We will leave the old forum up for a while incase you want to look at it.

New Client
2.12.01 - There is a new client on the download page. The new version allows you to limit uploads and downloads by bandwidth rather then slots. You can install over v39 and everything will be fine.

Thanks to Laurens Lenior for the tab bar icons. Also thanks to LCID Fire for hosting www.eDonkey2000.org among other things. You can go there if this site is down for what ever reason.

Fresh Start
1.26.01 - There is a new version of everything on the download page. The new version should fix the problem with all the corrupted downloads out there. Unfortunately all your old partial downloads will be lost. Don't feel too bad because they were probably corrupt anyway. You will have to upgrade to connect to the main server. If you used the v39 test version then you can continue those downloads if you install over that same folder.

Now you will occasionally get the message "Corruption found in filename at X". This is ok. That part of the download will be removed and the download will continue.

Testing...
1.24.01 - I just posted a test version that I hope will fix the problem with all the corrupt files floating around. I'm now checking every 9.5MB of a file to make sure it is correct rather then the whole thing. So problems should be detected sooner and your whole download wont be ruined by a few bad bytes.

I had to change things enough to where old downloads wont be able to be continued with the new version. This is actually good since it will remove all the corrupted files that are out there now from the system. The test version will probably be up for a few days and then I will make it official. So you have until probably Friday night to finish your current downloads.

Donkey needs Hay
1.18.01 - Well I'm starting to run out of money so this means I've either got to get a job or find some investors. If anyone out there has some money they want to put into the next big peer to peer file sharing service, let me know.

Corrupted Downloads: I've been getting a lot of reports of large files being corrupted. I'm pretty sure this is due to bugs in previous versions that caused some partial files to be corrupted and because people are corrupting their own partial files by viewing them before they are done. Because of the way the donkey works any corrupted partial file will be spread to others downloading the same file thus causing their downloads to also be corrupt.

If you download a file and it ends up being corrupt it is almost certainly useless to download that file again as it will still be corrupt. The best thing to do is try files that you think are new to the donkey network because they wouldn't have been corrupted by older clients. I'm working on a good way to fix this.

The server was down yesterday due to power outages we are having out here in California.

Server and Version
1.14.01 - There is starting to be too many donkey users for the main server to handle. The main server is running right now on my friend's machine. The machine is still used for a lot of other thing and doesn't have that great of a connection to the internet. If anyone out there has a fast machine with a really good internet connection and is willing to allow me to run the main server on it, please let me know.

Insufficient disk space: I've had a lot of complaints about this new feature. Let me just try to explain it. Since downloads don't necessarily come from start to finish there needs to be enough space available for the donkey to write to any part of the file. So the donkey checks each active download to make sure you have enough space to grow the file to its final size. If an active download changes to inactive (Paused, Queued, Remotely Queued, Insufficient disk space) its ungrown disk space is no longer reserved and other downloads that were previously in the "Insufficient disk space" state can now possibly start.

If you want a particular file to download that is in the "Insufficient disk space" state you can either free up some disk space (It might take the donkey a minuet to realize you've done this) or set the file you want to "High" priority and Pause another active download.

Versions: Just so everyone is clear version x.12.32, x.12.33, x.12.35 are all fully compatible. They just have a problem downloading from the versions below x.12.32. It would be better however if everyone would run the most current version. You can install all these versions over previous ones and your downloads will continue fine. Actually today I'm going to make the server refuse connections from lower clients.

If anyone out there is using 22.12.34 please don't it has a serious bug. Sorry about this, I'm going to start issuing a test version at least a day before I make a release now.

Back
1.8.01 - I'm back and there is a new version for you to download. All your downloads should continue fine. This version should make downloads proceed smoother and fix the problem where many people are trying to get the same file but no one is able to get the last bit of it. I also added a progress bar.

IMPORTANT: This version wont be able to download from people who are still using the older version. You can now see what version people have in the chat rooms. So please tell people to upgrade who are using a lower version.

This week I'm working on the bug that crashes people with proxy servers and the bug that keeps crashing the server every 30 min.

Vacation
12.17.00 - I'll be away from the 18th of Dec until the 3rd of Jan. So I will be even slower to respond to email during the next two weeks. There also wont be any updates until I get back.

There is a new version of both the client and server. All your downloads should continue fine. Servers now try to locate each other and the friend list is back. Private messaging is still disabled though.

New Version
12.12.00 - There is a new version of both the client and server. You must upgrade to be able to connect. All your downloads should continue fine.

I think I finally have the correct internal architecture so I'll be able to work on all the other features again.

Forum is Back
12.07.00 - I put the eDonkey2000 forum back up. If you have feature suggestions please post them there.

I also posted a new version of the client today.

Programers Wanted
12.05.00 - eDonkey2000 is turning into more work than I can handle alone. I'm looking for an experienced C++ programmer in the San Francisco Bay Area that would be willing to help out. If you are out there please send me email.

Back to the bug hunt...

New Version
12.01.00 - The new version is finally here. I completely rewrote the server. This will hopefully stop it from crashing ever 10 minuets. You can install this version over the previous one. All your downloads should continue fine.

New Web Host
12.01.00 - I'm sure you all have noticed how dog slow this web page is. I just signed up with a new host so hopefully that should speed things up once the DNS entries propagate.

Logo Contest
12.01.00 - Well it is about time that the donkey gets a logo. So if anyone out there has any good ideas send them in. Here are some candidates already.

Testers Wanted
11.30.00 - I put up a test version if anyone wants to try it out. This is a preview of the next release. If all goes well I'll make it public tomorrow. (I've made an email list of people willing to help test the pre-release versions. If you want to be added let me know.)

New version
11.25.00 - There is a new version of the donkey client and server. I had to change the protocol a little bit so you have to upgrade. Though you can install over the last version (protocol 8). (Note I had to update the versions again to stop a frequent server crash.)

I know you guys must be getting sick of bugs. I know I am. But please don't give up on the donkey. I'm working as fast as I can. My eyes hurt.

The Evil Remote Queue
11.21.00 - There is a new version of the donkey client and server. I had to change the protocol to support dynamic ports (see below).

IMPORTANT: You must install the new version to a clean directory. You can't just replace the exe. This means any downloads started with the previous version can't be completed with the new one. And you will have to reenter your preferences.

I'd also like to thank Jauke Stavenga for providing the windows client installer.

This release should help with the Remote Queuing problem I'm sure everyone is familiar with. I think there are still some things I can do though and will be working on that the rest of the week.

Here they come...
11.18.00 - Well donkey use went up by about 2000% this week. I wasn't quite ready for it. As you are surely realizing there are still many bugs to be worked out. Please be patient the donkey will get much better over this next month.

I've also realized that ports the donkey is using are also used by some Trojan. So they are blocked on many firewalls and is stopping a lot of people from connecting. To fix this I'm going to allow servers and clients be able to choose their port dynamically. This change should be posted before Tuesday.

Thanks to everyone that has sent me bug reports and encouragement.

Back online
11.13.00 - The server is back online and there is a new version of the client.

Server down
11.10.00 - IMPORTANT: The server will be down until Sunday or Monday. I will be gone this weekend and there is a bug in the server that I won't be able to fix until I get back. So I have to bring the server down now. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please check back on Monday. And expect a much improved client and server then.

Looking for a server
11.5.00 - We are looking for another machine to host a donkey server. If anyone has a Linux or Windows machine with a static IP on DSL or better and is willing to run an eDonkey2000 server please email me.

Big changes
11.3.00 - I had to change the protocol again to support instant messaging.

IMPORTANT: You must install the new version to a clean directory. You can't just replace the exe. This means any downloads started with the previous version can't be completed with the new one. And you will have to reenter your preferences.

Weekly Swap Meet
10.30.00 - I'm encouraging everyone who uses the donkey to logon every Monday. This will get more people together at the same time and stress out the system a little more. If everyone that uses the donkey were on at the same time there would be a lot files and people would actually be able to find stuff.

So if you are only going to use the donkey once try it on Monday. Of course feel free to use it the rest of the week.

Feedback Wanted
10.27.00 - I've started a thread in the forum asking for feature requests. So please go there and tell me what you want to see added or improved.

Also please send me any bug reports, comments or suggestions. Spread the word and encourage others to use the donkey. The more the merrier.

If anyone wants to help make this webpage better or write some perl let me know I could use the help.

More Protocol Changes
10.24.00 - I had to change the protocol again so you can see user names rather then IPs. So please make sure you upgrade your client.

You will also have to reenter your user name (the red 'P' on the toolbar).

Forum Added
10.23.00 - I added a link to the Kudzu Clan forum. Please feel free to go there and discuss the donkey.

Today eDonkey2000 showed up in Google for the first time! And we have had over 600 downloads of the donkey client.

Protocol Changes Again
10.20.00 - I made more changes to the protocol between the client and server. So please make sure you upgrade your client.

You can now view the files that a particular user is sharing. Plus each user can have a name now, rather than just a number. But names are not verified for uniqueness because there is no easy way to guarantee a name is unique without a central server. Though this isn't ideal it seems to work fine in the real world.

Protocol Change
10.05.00 - I made significant changes to the protocol between the client and server. So please make sure you upgrade your client.

Linux Support
09.16.00 - The server and command line client now both run on Linux. Also our main server has changed so take note.

The Donkey is Born
09.06.00 - eDonkey2000 is ready for testing. So go to the download page and check it out. Tell all your friends.
