James Randi to be Honored with the Richard Dawkins Award

The award is being unveiled at the annual AAI conference this year being held April 18 - 20, 2003 in Tampa, Florida, and will be presented during the banquet ceremonies on Saturday, April 19. The 2003 award will be given to: "The Amazing" James Randi (for more information about the recipient at: www.randi.org)

James Randi is being honored for his decades of work challenging pseudo-scientific claims. His dedication to promoting critical thinking is in keeping with the highest standards set by Dr. Richard Dawkins. Like Dawkins, Randi is an inspiration to everyone who searches for truth and applies rationalism to solving life's mysteries. Demonstrating a nontheist world view in a straightforward manner, Randi has combined entertainment and education while debunking charlatans who would encourage human ignorance. On stage and in writing he is never less than "The Amazing" James Randi.

The Richard Dawkins Award will be given every year to honor an outstanding Atheist whose contributions raise public awareness of the nontheist life stance; who through writings, media, the arts, film, and/or the stage advocates increased scientific knowledge; who through work or by example teaches acceptance of the nontheist philosophy; and whose public posture mirrors the uncompromising nontheist life stance of Dr. Richard Dawkins.
