Israeli group announces anti-Semitic cartoons contest!

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

A Danish paper publishes a cartoon that mocks Muslims.
An Iranian paper responds with a Holocaust cartoons contest -
- Now a group of Israelis announce their own anti-Semitic cartoons contest!

Eyal Zusman (30, back from anonymity) and Amitai Sandy (29), graphic artist and publisher of Dimona Comix Publishing, from Tel-Aviv, Israel, have followed the unfolding of the “Muhammad cartoon-gate” events in amazement, until finally they came up with the right answer to all this insanity - and so they announced today the launch of a new anti-Semitic cartoons contest - this time drawn by Jews themselves!

“We’ll show the world we can do the best, sharpest, most offensive Jew hating cartoons ever published!” said Sandy “No Iranian will beat us on our home turf!”

The contest has been announced today on the www.boomka.org website, and the initiators accept submissions of cartoons, caricatures and short comic strips from people all over the world. The deadline is Sunday March 5, and the best works will be displayed in an Exhibition in Tel-Aviv, Israel.

Sandy is now in the process of arranging sponsorships of large organizations, and promises lucrative prizes for the winners, including of course the famous Matzo-bread baked with the blood of Christian children.

Cartoon by Sharon Rosenzweig

To all those who’ve sent entries: we’re going to set up a proper gallery and display all entries we think qualify for the contest. Please give us another two-three days to set it up. This isn’t my day job! At least it isn’t supposed to be. I’ve been interviewing like crazy to newspapers, radio and TV stations from all over the world in the past week.

Many have expressed the concern that the cartoons we published here will be used out of context by real anti-semites to spread further hate against us.
To this I say:
Anti semites will always find excuses for hatred, with or without our help.
We’ve been accused for everything from 9/11 to hurricane Katrina,  the killing of Jusus and the original sin.
In my opinion, the only solution for racism is good education - education for thought and for doubt - so that people think twice before they accept everything they watch on TV or read in the newspaper or hear from their leaders or rabbies as truth from heaven.
Just think twice!

Punch and Judy by Avi Katz

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

it seems that last cartoon was a bit mild for some of you.

Perhaps this one, by Israeli cartoonist and illustrator Avi Katz, will make you angry.

Another day, another cartoon!

Friday, February 17th, 2006

Here’s another one of the first cartoon entries we’ve received, from Doron Nissimi of Jerusalem, Israel.

Jewish Doron Nissimi's entry for the Israeli Anti-Semitic Cartoons Contest!

Nice, isnt it?

Here are some more clarifications:

This contest is in no way directed against Arabs, Iranians, or Muslims in general. I never intended it to sound as if I think all Muslims have no sense of humor, as I know this isn’t true. I only said that I thought the Iranian Holocaust cartoons contest wasn’t so funny.
Also, I’m sorry, but we’ve decided to limit this contest to visual cartoons. But I’ll be happy to hear your Jewish jokes, so why don’t you just tell them here in the comments? This is open for non-Jews as well!

Radio interview on US National Public Radio

Terry Gross interviewed me on “Fresh Air” on NPR.

You can hear it here on their web site.

I’m still receiving dozens on dozens of these:

Amitai,

I just heard your interview on “Fresh Air”. I am the child of a survivor. I TOTALLY SUPPORT what you are doing. I am still struggling with my own Judaism and how to openly be a Jew in the world today and feel safe.

I hate feeling like a victim. Your response feels so empowering. YOU ROCK!!!

Thank you!

Moses by Daniel Higgins

I’ve been interviewed today by many newspapers, radio stations and TV channels from around the world. It’s very hectic here.

I would also like to thank all of you who donated money! Thanks to you, our first prize winner will receive a nice sum, hopefully around three hundreds of Dollars, but maybe more if you’re generous!

Reactions to this contest

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

In the last two days we’ve received hundreds of emails from all over the world. About 98% percent of them are from Jews saying: You’ve made us proud to be Jews (Or from non-Jews saying you’ve made me wish I was a Jew).

A few were concerened that real anti-semitists will use our cartoons to spread hate.

I don’t think they need us for that, they have no trouble inventing excuses for hate. Perhaps, if their crouds would see that Jews are drawing the same ridiculous cartoons, they might doubt the truthfulnessof these stupid cartoons.

I will soon post here some examples of the cartoons we’ve received.
