Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat

Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat, who was sworn-in as Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs  and Northern Areas, holds degrees in Masters of Arts and Law and Diploma in Business Management from Kings College London. He has the honour to attend prestigious educational institutions of the country like Aitcheson College Lahore, F.C. College Lahore, Government College Lahore and Punjab University.

Prior to the present assignment, he served the country as Federal Minister for Commerce, Industries, Local Government, Senior Minister for Home and Services & General Administration in Punjab Cabinet.

He is one of the seasoned politicians of the country and began his political career in 1977 when he was elected Member National Assembly for the first time and achieved the feat for the fifth time in recent general elections. He is a senior member of Central Executive Committee of Pakistan Peoples Party for the last 15 years.

Makhdoom Sahib hails from a respectable family of Pakistan and is Sajjadah Nasheen of Darbar Hazrat Shah Jewna, District Jhang.

The Minister also took keen interest in sports as a student and remained Captain of Squash Team, Member of Aitcheson College Cricket Squad and Riding Team.

He is married and has a son and a daughter.

Mian Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri

Mian Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri hails from an honorable political family and the contribution of his late father Mian Mahmud Ali Kasuri’s towards the framing of the original 1973 Constitution is widely acknowledged. Khurshid Kasuri himself is a veteran politician of many seasons and has served before as a parliamentarian and Federal Minister.

Throughout his academic career he had an excellent record, which culminated in his topping in the B.A. (Hons) Examination of the Punjab University in 1961. At the Government College, he was awarded many academic prizes and Rolls of Honour. He did his Tripos from Cambridge University. After Cambridge he studied at Oxford University for post-graduate work in Public Administration and Political Science. He was called to the Bar from Gray’s Inn, London.

He entered politics at an early age and joined the Tehrik-e-Istiqlal. He remained Secretary General of the Tehrik-e-Istiqlal for some time. He was arrested on innumerable occasions during his long political career in the struggle for democracy. After the government of General Zia-ul-Haq reneged on its promise to hold general elections in the country, leading political parties got together under the banner of the MRD for the purpose of holding general elections in the country. Khurshid Kasuri was an active leader striving to restore democracy in the country. He was arrested on numerous occasions for taking part in a movement launched by the MRD political parties in February, 1981.

After the formation of the peoples Democratic Alliance prior to the 1990 elections, Mian Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri was unanimously elected as the first Secretary General of PDA. The PDA was then the main opposition alliance in Pakistan. He was appointed Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs in the interim government of Prime Minister Mir Balakh Sher Mazari. He was elected MNA from Kasur in 1997.

Mian Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri is one of the few members of the Pakistan. Muslim League Parliamentary Party and the Central Working Committee who always expressed his views on all the national issues frankly and fearlessly regardless of whether the government of the day liked his views or not. For example, his views during the judicial crisis, on the issue of the impeachment of the former President Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari and on the 14th and 15th Amendments to the Constitution were expressed very strongly and were covered and commented upon extensively by the media at that time.

Mr. Khurshid Kasuri has been an active participant at various international conference and events as a member of delegations from Pakistan, thus bringing to the Foreign Office adequate knowledge about international relations and is commensurately attired with the nuances and where with all of Pakistan’s Foreign policy.

He has visited Russia, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, the European Union, Iran, Middle Eastern countries, Saudi Arabia, People Republic of China and USA.
