In 1982, over a dozen famous aviators met at the USAF Air Command and Staff College (Montgomery, Ala.) for the first "Great Moments in Aviation History." They met with students, shared personal experiences through stage interviews and spoke about significant aviation events through panel discussions.

In order to continue the event, a non-profit organization was established for the purpose of promoting aviation history and to encourage education, research, advancements and scholarships in aviation-related areas.

This organization is the International Association of Eagles (IAE). The IAE continues to sponsor this spectacular event, now known as, "The Gathering of Eagles." During the past 16 years, in various forums, over 250 aviators from over 20 countries have participated in this exciting program.

The International Association of Eagles and the Air Force Museum Foundation, Inc. have joined together to bring this unique aviation event to the United States Air Force Museum for the first time.
