The SSSL Bibliography is an annotated checklist of scholarship on writings and writers (novelists, playwrights, poets, essayists, diarists) of the American South. There are over 1,000 writers currently in the checklist, although there are many more who would qualify if there were scholarship available about them. The Mississippi Quarterly urges users to make recommendations for changes and additions, to point out errors, and to send replacement annotations for those that may be inadequate.

This checklist represents thirty-five years of collection by the Bibliography Committee of the Society for the Study of Southern Literature. (read more)

There are two main ways to find your way through the bibliography: by Searching and by browsing through the Directory. Since it is an ongoing project, we welcome all feedback. You can help us by pointing out errors, omissions and/or duplicates. If you have additions to the bibliography for us; please send them; we will review your suggestions before deciding to add them. Please provide us with as much information on your suggestion as possible (publishing information, suggested annotation etc.).

You can also help us provide additional information on Journals (full names, addresses), Authors and Writers (years of birth, death, websites, or help sort out our Not Assigned category).
