We've solid'ed up some plans and added an extra production panel on Sunday - with insights into how to make Machinima into your full-time focus! Top Machinima artists Tristan Pope, Terran Gregory and Pierce Portocarrero discuss with moderator Sasha Rudie the "how" of turning their projects into a professional endeavor.
Also: Machinima luminary Friedrich Kirschner joins the Live Machinima Jam on Sunday!
The 2006 Machinima Festival...In-World! October 24, 2006 - posted by Paul
We're not exactly deliverin' pizzas like Hiro yet, but for those of you who are unable to attend the meatspace version of the Machinima Fest, can join us for the virtual version in Second Life!
Courtesy of our friends The Electric Sheep Company, we'll be producing two events in Second Life around this year's festival.
First up is a Machinima Festival preview, taking place in Electric Sheep's Laguna Beach Theater in Second Life on Thursday, November. 2nd at 1am GMT/8pm EST/ 5pm PST. The preview will showcase several works being screened at the festival, as well as having some of the nominees on hand to speak about their productions and thoughts about Machinima in general.
Next up is the 2006 Machinima Awards ceremony on Saturday, November 4th at 9pm EST in Second Life. Once again being held at the Laguna Beach Theater, this year's Mackies will be simulcasted in-world so those not able to attend the event in New York can sit in on the ceremony in the virtual theater and hear the awards live as they're announced! Even the Oscars don't provide that!
You can read more about the 2006 Machinima Fest events in Second Life over at The Click Heard Around the World, blog of Rik Panganiban, who is leading up the SL events on the AMAS side of things.
Nothing like a multi-verse event to mark the advances of technology, I always say.
Site updatin' October 22, 2006 - posted by Paul
We're coming into the home stretch of the festival, which is just shy of two weeks away!
We have some updates to make to the site over the next week, one of which is listing our 2006 Machinima Awards judges! Our esteemed panel represents a wide range of experience and each will apply their knowledge to reviewing the nominated Machinima works. We are truly honored to have such a high caliber group of folks to contribute to our festival and it really helps shape our event and organization as a whole.
Note: The 2006 Machinima Awards Judging Panel solely reviews the works that were nominated for awards.
Festival Schedule posted! October 20, 2006 - posted by Paul
We've finally received confirms from all related parties and have posted our festival schedule! It contains a really great range of discussion topics, with Sunday being our Machinima Production day, focusing on production approaches and techniques for Machinima artists--insights for both the seasoned and the starter! There's still some room for special guests to make an appearance--but we won't say more until we know more!

Nominations forthcoming October 10, 2006 - posted by Paul
All the votes are in and tallied - the nominees have been selected. We're now collecting all the details about the works to post here as well as notifying the entrants (both nominees and entrants who weren't selected). Hang tight, folks. More info in a few hours...
Nominations announcement delayed until Oct. 10th. October 4, 2006 - posted by Paul
We're running a bit behind here at Machinima Fest HQ, primarily because we have numerous submissions to screen - and giving each one a proper review to ensure our selection process is thorough enough is taking longer than anticipated. To this, we'll be announcing the nominations on Tuesday, Oct. 10th.
We know the waiting is the hardest part, but want to make sure we have all our T's crossed and I's dotted - not to mention a number of cool Mackie nominations to list. Our apologies for the delay and thanks to everyone for your patience.
Processing.... September 28, 2006 - posted by Paul
We're currently toiling away at processing all the entries for this year's awards. Thanks to all of you who have submitted. We're targeting Oct. 4th as the day to announce this year's award nominees, which is just shy of a week away. We're also going to solidify our schedule within the next week as well as make ticket purchasing live, so check back for more festival news soon.
The last day for submitting... and another promo! (UPDATED) September 22, 2006 - posted by Paul
We're hours away from the festival deadline and the competition is heating up! If you havent submitted your work yet, you have still have a few hours to do so (the festival submission page will be turned off at 11:59pm EST of Friday, Septermber 22nd!)
UPDATE! In order to accommodate a few of our west coast Machinimators, we're leaving the submissions page up for a few hours longer - until approximately 11:59pm PST.
And finally our latest (and possibly last?) promo for the 2006 Machinima Festival - from our good friends (and festival sponsor) Reallusion! Take it away, boys!
2006 Machinima Festival Promo from Reallusion!
More news in the wings - stay tuned!
One week and counting!!! (and another promo!) September 15, 2006 - posted by Paul
Time is ticking fast away as we're a week away from our festival submission deadline! In the background, we're busy nailing down the festival schedule and speakers. We have some pretty interesting talks planned and think that the festival will have extremely well-rounded program, suiting both the initiated and those new to Machinima. We'll post our schedule soon so you can start planning your days!
Let's cut now to our latest promo - from Eriyanna at Myndflame.com! (Zinwrath/Illegal Danish)
2006 Machinima Festival Promo from Myndflame!
One more promo in the queue - which we will debut next week! Stay tuned here folks!
The Sept. 22nd deadline is fast approaching! September 5, 2006 - posted by Paul
I'm sure there's probably no need to raise the anxiety levels of those who already have the Sept. 22nd date permanently etched into their gray matter at this point, but for those who haven't been keeping track of the calendar, we're nearing the deadline, which is less than 3 weeks away. I've been asked a few times if we will have any sort of extension and the truth is, if we extend the deadline, then it won't give folks enough time to plan their travel should they be nominated.
On that note, let's cut to a bit of levity - such as another festival promo! Our latest is by CJ Ambrosia - director of the Grand Theft Auto-based series, PEDS!
PEDS - Just A Short: Festival
We have another promo in the queue, with others on the way as well! Get yours in and let the others know about submitting to the fest!
Original Music Award Announced! August 28 ,2006 - posted by Paul
In order to acknowledge the infusion of original musical compositions into Machinima productions, the board voted this week to create a separate award for Machinima works that use original music. This new award, Best Original Music, is now included in the submission form. In addition, the Best Sound category has now be redefined as "Best Sound Design" with a focus on sound design and editing.
For those of you who've already submitted their works and would like to have their entry considered for the new category, please send a note to submissions[at]machinima[dot]org and we'll update your submission for consideration into this category.

There's still some pages being developed (Submission Form and Program Schedule), but we have most of the initial info in place and will update the others soon. A big THANKS! to the folks that helped us get here!
And now, to kick off the site proper, here's a great promo vid made by Klaus and Friedrich over at MachinimaDeutschland announcing the fest and call for entries.
They also produced a German version as well! Excellent stuff, guys! If you have an idea for a fest promo yourself, get crackin' on it! Once its finished, send it along to us and we'll post them as we receive them!
Thanks everyone and we look forward to your entries (and promos)!
