Government set to introduce post codes

The Gibraltar Government is considering options to introduce a post code system on the Rock.

Trade and Industry Minister Joe Holliday said the system would help improve efficiency in the delivery of mail and in minimising delays outside Gibraltar in handling correspondence generated locally.

The Royal Gibraltar Post Office has presented a number of alternatives to the Government.

“I expect to make an announcement in this regard towards the end of the year,” Mr Holliday said.

The Post Office made a record income last year of nearly £2m, which the Minister said reflected improvements in service levels.

“What was previously a scenario of falling income for the RGPO as not only been halted but also reversed,” Mr Holliday said.

“The results achieved reflect the introduction of the new Postage Paid Impression and Franking Machines and, more importantly, much greater listening to and cooperation with the local business community, who now enjoy greater reliance on the Post Office for both their outbound and inbound mail.”
