Jack's Wife (Julie Bowen) Joins Boston Legal

Wednesday, May 18 @ 14:15:38 CDT - 778 reads

NEW YORK (Zap2it.com) With appearances on two ABC series under her belt this season, Julie Bowen will make the network her full time home come fall.

The former "Ed" star will join the cast of "Boston Legal" for its second season, ABC Entertainment president Steve McPherson told reporters Tuesday (May 17) at a press conference announcing the network's 2005-06 schedule. Meanwhile, Rhona Mitra and Monica Potter are leaving the show.

"Boston Legal" will begin its second season on a new night (10 p.m. ET Tuesdays) with five episodes left over from this year, thanks to the success of "Grey's Anatomy" in its former Sunday timeslot. McPherson says it's possible some scenes from those five shows will be reshot to include Bowen.

Details on her character are scant thus far. McPherson says that creator David E. Kelley is hoping to add a stronger female perspective to the show through her and Candice Bergen, who joined the series midway through this season and will also return. "I think he wants to get some of that 'Ally McBeal' voice out," McPherson says.

Bowen had a recurring part on ABC's comedy "Jake in Progress" this year, playing a woman who won a "Swan"-like TV makeover contest and became involved with the title character (John Stamos). She also guest-starred on an episode of "Lost," playing Jack's (Matthew Fox) bride-to-be.

Maggie Grace in X-Men 3?

Aside from Patrick Stewart, the X-Men movie have been known to put some reasonably unexpected actors into the main mutant roles. An effete Scotsman as our indigo-skinned German teleporter? The youngster from The Piano as our Southern belle touch-freak? The gracefully aging Famke Janssen as the telepath formerly known as Marvel Girl? And who the hell is Hugh Jackman?

And yet all of the selections turned out rather well, so I have to assume they know what they’re doing when they make the extremely weird decision to put Kelsey Grammer into the blue fur of X-Men 3’s beloved Beast. Yes, the man who finally finished years of therapy on NBC’s Frasier is set to play Dr. Hank McCoy, a scientist and super-agile furry mutant otherwise known as Beast. And while the voice of the former Cheers barfly seems to fit the character, I’m having tremendous difficulty picturing the 50-year-old thespian doing too many of the stunts…

In addition to confirming the involvement of British footballer/actor/thug Vinnie Jones as Professor Xavier’s oversized powerhouse half-brother Juggernaut, Variety says the production is hunting down Maggie Grace (Lost’s self-centered blonde babe) to play young mutant Kitty Pryde, who can alter her density and “phase” through objects. They also verify that an actor is being sought to play winged prettyboy Angel (a role we previously heard Alias villain David Anders tested for).

At any rate, X-Men 3 is sprinting toward production with Layer Cake director Matthew Vaughn at the helm and the hopes of getting it together in time for May of next year.

...Straight from the Island Dwellers

by Kristin Veitch | May 18, 2005

"No one is allowed on the set for the finale."

Everyone said it. The publicists. The producers. The dog groomer. But every time they did, I had only one thought: I'm not going to let some silly little suggestion keep me from visiting Lost, the best show on television.

See, the thing is, when you reach a certain level of appreciation--oh, who am I kidding, obsession--your mind plays tricks on you. Which is why I soon found myself on a plane to Honolulu, Hawaii, carrying camouflage pants, night-vision goggles, a list of the Lost stars' favorite hangouts and the following mantra: It's not stalking, it's just a friendly little game of hide-and-seek.

If you watch Lost, you, too, share the obsession. For we fans know there has never been, nor will there be, anything quite like it. With its stunning plot twists, flawless writing and talented (not to mention shag-worthy) cast, this show has become, for its fans, like crack dipped in chocolate. Delicious. Inescapable. All-consuming.

That said, although it may get me arrested, I'm spilling all the pertinent details of my Hawaiian manhunt with you, my dear tubers, for you are the only ones who understand my mania.

Welcome to Operation: Honolulu Hunt. Thanks to a few well-placed sources and the aforementioned camo, I did manage to rendezvous with some of your favorite castaways in various locations around the anything but deserted island of Oahu and beyond.

And I'm bringing you eight dossiers full of the nitty-gritty details--interrogations, video surveillance and highly classified intel on six of my favorite castmembers, plus two sources who are so inside, so trustworthy, so in the know they actually run the show.

This is all part of E!'s exclusive Lost Week, leading up to what promises to be the best two hours of TV this season--Lost's season finale on Wed., May 25. I'll be powwowing with your favorite Lost lovelies in special appearances on E! News every weeknight at 7.

And just remember, if anyone asks, I was never there.

Now visit E! Online for ALL the goodies, and don't forget to set your TiVo/VCRs for tomorrow's E! News Live.

An interview with Lost's Josh Holloway
Posted by gertiebeth
Tuesday, May 17 @ 19:33:06 CDT - 2060 reads

Part of this interview originally appeared in TV Guide Magazine

Josh Holloway talks to SHAWNA MALCOM about his newfound fame after appearing in Lost, a hit series about plane crash survivors stranded on an island.

Standing out in TV’s most diverse ensemble? Difficult. Making your mark when sharing a scene with a cranky boar or a vicious polar bear? Next to impossible.

So how has Josh Holloway, who plays cocky hothead Sawyer on ABC’s smash Lost, emerged as television’s sexiest new tough guy?

“He’s got an incredible sense of humour and a mystique,” says co-creator J.J. Abrams. “And ultimately, he’s got a kick-ass pair of dimples. You can’t really deny them.”

Not bad for a 35-year-old Georgia country boy who had grown so frustrated by eight years of mostly fruitless auditions that he was this close to packing it in.

Holloway, who wed long time love Yessica last October, talked TV Guide about his newfound fame – not to mention love, kisses and his future on Lost – after a photo shoot in Los Angeles.

TV Guide: Do you consider Sawyer a bad boy?

Lost in the Shuffle

Tuesday, May 17 @ 09:43:18 CDT - 638 reads

With the season finale of "Lost" in sight, Harold Perrineau tells us that many of the cast members don't know which characters make it to next season. "It's a hairy ending, so we're all waiting to see who even comes back next year. The writers just got back to work, so we don't what they're doing or where they're going," explains Perrineau, who plays Michael Dawson. "It's fun to see what happens, but it's your job, so if you're not coming back, then you want to be able to go and get another job."

So if things don't work out on "Lost"? "Of course the fantasy is to do an action film," he says with a laugh. "The other day, I saw 'XXX' and they were talking about the next 'XXX,' and I was like, 'That could be me!' "

Everybody Loves Finales: Buildup Is Long, Hype Is Maddening

All season long, we wait for spring. We watch the dramas with ongoing story lines. Questions mount. Suspense builds. Viewers speculate. And in May, we get answers.

This year's crop of must-know series includes a range of shows, from brand-new ones to those ending their runs. We've rounded them up, filled in a few blanks for people who want to tune in and talked to fans about what to expect.

Lost

The Heat: The success of this freshman drama suggests the viewers are ready for something new — if it's good. And this show about 48 people stranded in the South Pacific after their plane crashed fits the bill: The American Film Institute named it one of the year's top 10 TV programs.

Film commissioners in the islands are using the success of ABC's 'Lost' to showcase the state's versatility.

By Sheri Linden for The Hollywood Reporter

The ultraphotogenic Hawaiian Islands have been playing themselves in movies since the earliest days of celluloid. But it's still news to many that they're more than capable of standing in for everything from Africa to New York to Mars. Week after week, ABC's Oahu-shot hit series "Lost" is helping to drive that point home.

Hawaii's film commissioners couldn't be happier about the exposure a top 10 show affords the islands, and none more so than Walea Constantinau, who oversees the film office for the city of Honolulu and the island of Oahu. "It has certainly been one of the most illustrative shows for me as a commissioner to be able to show off what we have," Constantinau says. She points out that a "Lost" sequence set in Iraq was filmed in the pre-World War II bunkers at Diamond Head crater overlooking Waikiki -- a far cry from the stunning tropical beaches usually associated with the 50th state.

"It really has opened a lot of people's eyes to Hawaii's versatility," state film commissioner Donne Dawson says of "Lost."

Touchstone Television senior vp production Barry Jossen, who grew up in Hawaii, says Oahu has given his "Lost" team a few surprises with its "ability to support the flashback sequences." In addition, he sees many locations on the island that the series has yet to tap, with beaches and jungles only part of the mix. "There still are a lot of suburban and urban areas that can double for other parts of the world," Jossen says.
