Nakamura's dangerous arsenal, special tour outline revealed, Tenzan's group name (maybe) by Stuart - 06 Oct 2006

Nakamura announced two dangerous new moves today that he plans to use at some point in his return match at Sumo Hall. Former All Japan rookie giant turned Pancrase-based freelancer, Masayuki Kono, acted as Nakamura's sparring partner at Gold's Gym in Tokyo, and after the two trained together, Nakamura demonstrated what his new techniques will look like. The first one (second frame) sees Nakamura lift the victim into a fireman's carry position, almost an Argentine backbreaker, clutch the wrist, then drop the victim in a no doubt dangerous manner on the mat. The other one (third frame) is a bit more simple, a reverse bodyslam, where he simply lifts the opponent and throws him face and body-first to the mat. Since the risk is high in both moves, Nakamura didn't finish demonstrating them on his friend, who is 6'3" and 240lbs (or 260lbs if you believe Nikkan), so no small man to lift. Nakamura said he had strengthened his body in most places while in America, but especially in his legs, which will help him lift big men. His target at Sumo Hall is to be able to raise 265lbs (or 309lbs if you believe Nikkan; maybe a little heavier either way after this effort on TV Asahi recently) Nakanishi to show off his strength. Most of all, Nakamura is simply happy to be wrestling again and said he would begin to acquire results and go after the IWGP Heavyweight Title as quickly as possible.

Which is the strongest area of Japan!? "NEW GENERATION LIVE 2 ~AKI NO GEOPOLIS~" follows the G1 Tag League this year, the sequel to last year's special tour moving from the outdoor Sky Theater to the indoor Geopolis at Tokyo Dome City this year. The outline for this tour has been announced and New Japan goes Survivor! Well, sort of... because there is going to be a round-robin league with wrestlers segregated, only by where they are from rather than racial heritage. There will be three teams per block and probably four blocks in all, so about twelve combinations altogether. 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss. The league matches will take place on 11/13, 11/14, and 11/15, with the semis and final on 11/17. 11/16 will be a special show separate from the tournament. The winners of the tournament will receive the grand prize of... a free ride pass for one year, covering all Tokyo Dome attractions! Since this is following the G1 Tag League and obviously taking the tour name into account, I'd guess this tournament would have a lot of young lions and juniors. Perhaps it'll be an unofficial G1 Jr. Tag League, we'll know when they announce participants.

The unofficial name for Tenzan's new unit with Koshinaka and Makabe is Mougyu Ikka, or more literally in English, something like Extreme Cow Family. This hasn't been made official yet, so could change, but he used the name a few times in a recent Tokyo Sports interview. It sounds a lot less corny in Japanese than when literally translated...

Link of the Day: Tiger Mask now has a site based where else but Italy, where he is loved by many. The site is in Italian, but has a lot of easy to access information and photos.

Nakamura is gunna be a beast. Mix the power moves and headdrops with his vast submission knowledge and you got a MACHINE. Can't wait to see him.
    by Zemeckis @ 06 Oct 2006 09:01 am
That is the coolest prize ever.
    by Walter @ 06 Oct 2006 09:09 am
I wonder if Nakamura will still have the same agility and be able to do certain moves. Especially, the Cross armbar takedown. We will have to see!

    "Extreme Cow Family"

    HAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!! laughing

It may actually be Extreme Bull Family, as one of Tenzan's nick names in Japan it "The Raging Bull" (shades of Manny Fernandez!) Or, as my wife had translated, "The Very Angry Bull"...also quite funny. wink

    T.R!

The only problem with one of those face first powerslams is that they always look sloppy and terrible. I am looking forward to the Wrist Clutch Burning Hammer/Angle Slam move though.
    by jade @ 06 Oct 2006 10:32 am
nakamura is number one. he's so cool (and cute)!!!
    by Ganon Dun @ 06 Oct 2006 10:43 am
Doesn't Hirooki Goto normally do that wrist clutch move?
by High Flying Star @ 06 Oct 2006 10:48 am
Must be different somehow. Maybe more like a Burning Hammer, less like an Angle Slam. Or maybe they are letting Shinsuke take whatever move he wants because he is the golden boy. wink
    by Western @ 06 Oct 2006 10:58 am
I wouldn't mind him using the Wrist-Clutch Hammer, simply because it's an awesome move. Kobashi be damned, I want more Hammer!
    by Jeff @ 06 Oct 2006 11:25 am
I call it, Nakamura breaks Nakanishi's neck with that move while Chono gives Choshu a shining yakusa kick for the win.
    by ... @ 06 Oct 2006 11:34 am
is Kono sending that thing full force into Nakamura in the first picture?!
    by atari @ 06 Oct 2006 12:01 pm
this is the real future of njpw. sorry-- i like tanahashi but he isn't showing the tools DEMANDED of a njpw ace. if he can't learn them he should lose the belt and learn how to gain them or stop trying to be a njpw ace and become something different like masa chono and shiro koshinaka did. nakamura has what is needed and demanded just like antonio inoki, keiji mutoh, riki choshu, shinya hashimoto, kazuyuki fujita (except for the attitude) and yuji nagata(before his shoot loss but he came back good after). its only a matter of time now that he is bigger/stronger.
    by Darsh @ 06 Oct 2006 12:22 pm
The way he's got his wrist clutched would make for a very awkward Wrist Clutch Burning Hammer. I personally hope it's not the Burning Hammer. The history and nature of that move is something you just don't throw around. Maybe it's more like a Wrist Clutch DVD. Nakamura can't be so lame than to steal the most dangerous and protected move in Puro after taking a vacation in America all year. =(
    by ... @ 06 Oct 2006 12:41 pm
maybe its revenge for noah treating the cross armbar like a rest-hold laughing
    by Keno @ 06 Oct 2006 12:45 pm
I see Nakamura's first move being more similiar to a Last Faloncry then a Burning Hammer, but we'll have to wait and see.
    by wu @ 06 Oct 2006 12:59 pm
when I saw Nakamura and Kono it struck me that if Kono returned to prowrestling and appeared in New Japan the two could team as the reincarnation of Inoki/Baba for this decade. smile

it is a waste for Kono to just be doing MMA, he could be useful to prowrestling.
    by Phil Parent @ 06 Oct 2006 01:19 pm
Wasn't that the point of Tanahashi & Kenzo?
    by sprewell rimz @ 06 Oct 2006 01:35 pm
ladies and gentlemen, someone just compared Masayuki Kono to Giant Baba. take a deep breath.
    by Ganon Dun @ 06 Oct 2006 01:56 pm
Not the first time I've heard the comparison, but last I heard it was based on looks.
    by thunderbird @ 06 Oct 2006 02:13 pm
    Moooo... laughing
    by Zemeckis @ 06 Oct 2006 02:36 pm
Looking back at that first picture I thought Nakamura was doing a hip swinging motion to taunt a caveman with green teeth before he ate him.
    by Souder @ 06 Oct 2006 03:05 pm
Completely off topic here, but is Stu ever going to re-up his old WV tape reviews? Also looks like Kono is having to much fun swining that padded bat.
    by gedo @ 06 Oct 2006 06:50 pm
Nakamura is a new breed of beast in new japan. there's going to be alot of people getting their ass beat by him? i hope to god he has a brand new finsher heheehhe
    by Russ @ 06 Oct 2006 07:28 pm
    EXTREME COW FAMILY!!!!!

GENIUS! SHEER, UNADULTERATED, GENIUS!!! MY NAME'S BENNET AND I'M IN IT JACK!!!

What's with the first frame from Shinsuke? Is he going to prepare for his debut by getting hit with whack-a-mole bats? Gotta do more than that brother.

I cant wait to purchase Extreme Cow Family merch.
    by Stuart @ 06 Oct 2006 09:50 pm
Couple of notes from the press...

    - It sounds like the dangerous move will end up with a Falcon Arrow/Michinoku Driver II style drop, rather than a Burning Hammer style drop.
    - Nakamura isn't going to throw away his armbars, he doesn't want to be a one dimensional power fighter. In fact, Nakamura said he has developed an evolved version of the Shining Triangle.
    by VulgarDisplayofPaco @ 06 Oct 2006 10:36 pm
A more evovled Shining Triangle? Fuck yes. I can't WAIT to see how that works.

The wrist-clutch Samoan driver sounds pretty cool IMO.

You have GOT to be kidding me.
    by Jeff @ 07 Oct 2006 12:08 am
Like I said before, New Japan has become sports entertainment. The shirt says it all.

If anybody says its not sports entertainment, then it getting very McMahon like.
    by GreatVapid @ 07 Oct 2006 12:10 am
    That is awesome. laughing
    by Walter @ 07 Oct 2006 07:11 am
That doesn't prove they are Sports Entertainment. They have do a lot more of destroying the company name to be considered that.
    by Nick @ 07 Oct 2006 09:35 am
New Japan mid 90's was far more gimmicky than today and was never had a sports entertainment moniker, so i see no need as to why today's product deserves one.
    by ANIMETAL GOD @ 07 Oct 2006 11:44 am
Besides Simon needs to start hitting on young girl and at least on pregnancy angle before they can be called sports entertainment and realistically the only one who looks pregnant is Akebono. And finally the Tiger Mask website is cool!!
