Skype Selects iSkoot to Deliver Mobile Solution to Mobile Operators
CAMBRIDGE, MA – November 16, 2006 – Skype, the global Internet
communications company, has chosen iSkoot to deliver a solution to
mobile operators. 3 is the first mobile operator to launch this new
service and will preload the Skype solution on Nokia and Sony Ericsson
handsets; this Skype-branded solution utilizes iSkoot’s mobile client
and network servers.
The 3 Group is a division of Hutchison Whampoa, and together with
Hutchison Telecommunications International Limited, is the leading
global player in the 3G arena, holding licenses in 11 markets with total
population coverage of approximately 175 million.
In just three years, the 3 Group has built an entirely new mobile
broadband network, achieving probably the fastest rollout of a radio
network in the entire telecom industry. Marketed globally under the 3
brand, the group was the first operator in the world to provide
dual-mode 3G services.
To date, commercial 3G services have been launched in Italy, the UK,
Australia, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Hong Kong, Israel and Ireland.
Hutchison announced more than 13.5 million customers in August 2006. For
more information about 3, please visit

iSkoot’s client software enables mobile customers to use the Skype
service from their handsets anywhere . The iSkoot servers are integrated
into the operators’ network so that seamless calling and billing can be
offered to their users. Users can make and receive Skype calls from any
mobile phone by using the existing cellular voice network. The Skype-enabled
phones free Skype users from their PCs and allow them to connect with
online contacts from anywhere, at any time.
“Skype on mobile will quickly become a must-have feature. By
combining Skype with iSkoot’s mobile solution, users will never be out
of touch with their online Skype contacts.” said Jacob Guedalia, CEO of
iSkoot. “3 is first out the gate, reaffirming the company’s
cutting-edge, pioneer reputation. By utilizing existing network
resources iSkoot enables maximal availability with minimal software
investment. Now mobile operators can satisfy user demand for Skype and
expand average revenue per user – it’s a clear win-win situation. With
iSkoot-enabled Skype calls, 3 has a clear differentiator to offer mobile
users.”
