Brane Mozetič Wins Award for Poetry

Ljubljana, Dec. 9

Poet Brane Mozetič is this year's winner of the prestigious Jenko Award, the Slovenian honour for best poetry collection of the last two years. His collection Banalije (Banalities) was found to be extremely personal in the open portrayal of the pain of the author, who speaks about himself as "a human, a gay man, an emotional, sexual, moral and artistic being", the jury said in the explanation of the award. Mozetič (1958) has published ten collections of poetry, a book of short stories, and two novels, one of which has been translated into Croatian.
