G1 Climax 2007 outline by Stuart - 18 Jun 2007  New Japan today revealed the outline for the 2007 G1 Climax, the annual midsummer festival and biggest tournament in professional wrestling. Twelve men will fight it out for the trophy, two more than last year when the tournament was stripped down to five per block. Only one participant is confirmed so far, and he gave an interview today. The first entrant into the 2007 G1 is Milano Collection AT, who yesterday won the Best of the Super Jr. tournament and has been given a great reward. Milano is most looking forward to a couple of men returning. Hiroshi Tanahashi, who Milano has been a rival of since first entering New Japan during last year's G1 tour, and who he had a very close match with last December in WRESTLE LAND. And the man responsible for Milano being given the chance to become part of New Japan, Masahiro Chono, who is aiming at a return on the next tour. Milano wants to face Chono and show his growth over the past year to the BLACK leader and his mentor. Milano said he would destroy the rankings in the heavyweight division and continue the "Italy Revolution" in his first G1. [Results] New Japan, 6/17/07 by Stuart - 17 Jun 2007  --> "NEW JAPAN 35TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR ~ CIRCUIT 2007 BEST OF THE SUPER JR. XIV ~POWER OF MIND~" <-- Milano Collection AT pulled off an unlikely victory on par with Kakihara's win in 2003 to win this year's Best of the Super Jr. tournament. Few would have picked Milano to win after so/so results leading in, but his opponent, Wataru Inoue, was also in average form before the tournament, and along with Taguchi, they managed to outdo the junior division's "Big 4" in what was a rollercoaster tournament. This was Milano's first participation in the tournament, and he and Wataru put on a great show to finish it that had "heavy stomping" from fans at Korakuen, which is usually the sign of a good match. Wataru kicked out of the Victoria Milanese (backdrop clutch hold) and had Milano in the Triangle Lancer, but the skillful Italian cradled his way out of that, hit a thrust kick, then the Armani Exchange. He followed with a second Victoria Milanese and the unlucky Wataru, so close to his first singles glory but once again falling just short, stayed down. Milano declared in his post-match interview that he had achieved a "NEW JAPAN Dream" today, that the "Italy Revolution" had begun, and that he is more interested in a spot in the 2007 G1 Climax than challenging his sworn friend Minoru for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title, since he knows it is in good hands. Nagata & Nakanishi defeated Makabe & Yano in a special tag match designed as the last build-up to the long awaited Nagata vs. Makabe rematch back at Korakuen next month. Nakanishi pinned Yano while Nagata and Makabe were fighting all over the place, but GBH had the last laugh as they got hold of Nagata and Makabe made a mess of the ring that caused a slight delay before the main event, cutting off much of Nagata's hair. This is likely to have enraged Nagata, so look for "Killer" Nagata to show up next month and attempt to liquidate this long-standing grudge. Shinsuke Nakamura has had a unique tour, fighting hard near the bottom of shows and winning most of his matches. Today, the underachieving young ace scored his second singles victory over Tenzan in the last couple of months, fighting off GBH intrusion to submit the out of sorts GBH "leader" with his flying cross armbreaker. Shinsuke has been using submissions more to finish matches on this tour, and is attempting to try and find his way before the G1 Climax, where many expect him to finally resurface after a quiet year. Katsuhiko Nagata made an appearance after the fourth match, the NEW JAPAN FACTORY ace reporting his K-1 Dynamite!! USA victory to fans, and also telling them that he will fight Caol Uno in round one of the K-1 HERO'S Middleweight Tournament at Yokohama Arena on 7/16. Wataru Inoue vs. Milano Collection AT will serve as the final of the 2007 Best of the Super Jr. tournament. No Minoru, Kanemoto, Liger, OR Tiger for the first time since 2000, with a first time winner definitely to be crowned tomorrow. Wataru finally broke past the wall of Minoru after three big match losses to him in the past - two in title matches, on in last year's semi final round. The two headlined in front of 5,500 fans tonight in Kyoto, Wataru edging one step closer to the elusive singles glory by forcing the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion to submit to his Triangle Lancer. Milano has also been boosted massively in this tournament with victories over both Liger and Tiger, and despite an upset loss to Yujiro, today defeated perhaps the strongest performer of the tournament, Taguchi, to reach the final. Milano debuted the new name for his backdrop clutch hold, titled the Victoria Milanese, and pulled off the big win. XIV ~POWER OF MIND~" <-- Times may finally be changing in New Japan's junior division. The long-standing "Big 4" system of Koji Kanemoto, Tiger Mask, Minoru, and Jushin Thunder Liger has been severely compromised in this year's Best of the Super Jr. tournament, with just the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion (Minoru) able to reach the final four. Taguchi scored probably the biggest win over his career to date, pinning New Japan's hardest to beat junior star, Kanemoto, in tonight's main event. He was already through to the semis, but victories over both Minoru and Kanemoto document the Funky Weapon's growth in the past year. Kanemoto's loss mean that just four months after almost winning the IWGP Heavyweight Title and after reaching last year's G1 semis, he fails to reach the Super Jr. semis, Taguchi and Minoru advancing. Neither Tiger Mask or Liger was able to advance from Block A, thanks to great campaigns for both Wataru Inoue and Milano Collection AT. Both won today, meaning they advance, Wataru like Taguchi, dominating his seniors in the block, and Milano scraping through on the direct confrontation rule, having beaten both Tiger and Liger, with whom he is tied on points. Tomorrow's semis in Kyoto pit Taguchi against Milano and Wataru against Minoru, the latter a rematch from both last year's Super Jr. semis and this February's IWGP Jr. match from Sumo Hall, Wataru with the form he is in perhaps getting his greatest chance to finally get past the big wall named Minoru. He is going to be forced to forfeit all of his remaining BOSJ matches, meaning he will definitely end up on zero points in his first tournament. Tokyo Sports says that newly engaged Nakamura will have another singles match against Tenzan on the 6/17 Korakuen tour climax. They last met in April at Teisen Hall, with Nakamura winning, and like Tanahashi vs. Bernard last year, there will be a big heavyweight bout to go with the Super Jr. final. Liger pins CIMA in DG, Nakamura to be married! by Stuart - 05 Jun 2007  Jushin Thunder Liger became the second CTU member after Jado this year to push down the face of DRAGON GATE, CIMA, at the company's latest Korakuen Hall offering today. He teamed with Masaaki Mochizuki and the two had no problems cooperating, unlike their opponents, who aren't on good terms. Liger completely defeated CIMA at the end, spiking him with a brainbuster and following with the CTB for the 1-2-3. Liger provoked CIMA after the match and said he would send someone in place of Jado to DG's 6/10 Hakata show to battle CIMA. Liger suggested his Kobe World Hall title defense be made into a three way dance, possibly against both CIMA and Gamma. On the same show, "Hollywood" Stalker Ichikawa announced that he would raid New Japan's 6/8 Osaka show to get IWGP Heavyweight Champion, Yuji Nagata, to face him on DG's Kobe World convention. Stalker has faced a big cast of celebrities, and Nagata is the next on his list. Should this happen, it would mean three big New Japan names - Nagata, Liger, and Kanemoto - would appear on the show. Shinsuke Nakamura has much reason to be happy after formally announcing today that he will marry 26-year-old Harumi Maekawa on September 1st. The two have been acquainted since Shinsuke's university days and Harumi has followed him whereever he has been across the world. A big wedding party is planned in Tokyo, with 400 people scheduled to appear. Nakamura said that wants marriage to motivate him and speed up his progress as a pro wrestler. New Japan announced a partial card for LOCK UP's first advance outside of Tokyo, and the three matches so far all have a confrontation theme: New Japan Sekigun vs. GBH, GBH vs. Apache, and New Japan Sekigun vs. Big Japan. Nakanishi & Hirasawa will battle Sekimoto & Katsumasa Inoue in the tag match where if Sekimoto wins, he is likely to get a singles match with Nakanishi. XIV ~POWER OF MIND~" <-- All five of today's Best of the Super Jr. matches that kicked off the tournament featured a young generation vs. older generation theme. And to the surprise of many, the young generation clocked up more wins than losses, thanks to Taguchi avenging his IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title match loss to Minoru from April (regaining some pride for Samurai Gym in the process), Wataru scoring a huge submission win over Tiger Mask, and Naito cradling Gedo for the biggest upset of the lot in his Super Jr. debut match. Liger fought off a spirited challenge from Yujiro, while Kanemoto welcomed DRAGON GATE's BxB Hulk back to New Japan with a main event thrashing, but overall it was a good day for the young wrestlers. Today's opening match was a main event late last year, with the same result, as Nakamura submitted Yamamoto with a cross armbreaker. Having been given many singles matches on this tour, Shinsuke said he plans to master the chance and used a more mat-based style today than he has since his return from America, perhaps looking to revive his old style more.
