APHRODITE'S CHILD

"The Singles"
(2003, 2-CD)

This is the first time that I hear Aphrodite's Child live. The booklet says that "End of the World" is recorded on 31-12-1968 at a surprise party. The quality is excellent and the song is also greatly performed.
The second live song is "Lontano Dagli Occhi" which is performed live in San Remo, Italy in January 1969. The voice of Roussos is a bit loud but the music is great and it's typical for the sound of Aphrodite's Child from that period.
The third bonus track is "Parthenon". Apparently recorded for the "It's Five O'Clock" album but never made it on that. It's an instrumental track composed by Vangelis and it sounds like a free-form improvisation. I wonder how many (live) tracks there are still lying around. And I hope that the next release will be a "Live & rare" release instead of another sampler with a few bonus tracks.

2003. Kees Aerts.
