DEUS EX MACHINA

"Diacronie Metronomiche"

(Kaliphonia, 1996)

This interesting band formed in 1985 in the Italian city of Bologna had in its to have three previous disks of study, called "Gladium Caeli", "Deus Ex Machina" and "De Republica", based on the problematic man-nature, in format, it could be said, of opera-rock.
As something that happens often to the groups, it had been time to publish their live performance and then this "Diacronie Metronomiche" appeared.
Registered in a mobile study between 1994 and 1995 in two concerts given in their native city, the disk reflects the power and the precision with which each member executes his instrument making that Deus Ex Machina silences us with its music.
Difficult to assimilate in a first one heard, the group is centered in Alberto Piras' excellent voice, Alessandro Bonetti's violin and Maurino Collina's guitar.
They stand out the themes "Exordium", "Perpetual Lux I", "M.A.", "Si Tu Bene Valeas Ego Bene Valeo", "Deus Ex Machina" and "Dialegein" among the 14 that it includes the disk.
Difficult to classify, difficult to find their influences, original in their compositions, texts in Latin and in Italian, they make that Deus Ex Machina is a strong bet among the neoprogressive groups.
It could not lack the Italian humor among the themes, over there Bonetti is singing kind of a Thrash from 41 seconds to God, the acronym of the end or "Brukner L'avversario di Brus Li".
The sound is very good but regrettably Kaliphonia used the internal envelope to make propaganda, I believe that it had been more professional some pictures of the band in scene.
With this live disk it is clear that to weigh of acoustic passages, electric or acoustic violin, the group is more near the progressive but in fact alone hard to center them somehow because they are indefinable. Lovers of the rock symphonic style Yes, Genesis, Marillion or Pendragon, to abstain.
