Evergrey

"Solitude + Dominance + Tragedy"

(Hall of Sermon, 1999)

After listening several times the topic "When darkness fall" included in the one it covers promotional of " Icarus ", I knew that a lot of time would not pass until getting the complete work of Evergrey; indeed I had " S+D+T " I joust on time to comment it in this fourth edition of Nucleus, it is the second album of Evergrey whose immediate antecedent is "The Dark Discovery."

The intentions of these Swedes are quite clear, him his could be integrated next to the interesting proposals of the progressive hard of half-filled of those ' 90; I speak of the scene that fundamentally tour around European bands of first lines as Conception or Threshold. Evergrey for the time being stays in a half profile next to others that timidly offer us its proposals as: Acron, Ivory Tower, Behind the Courtain or Black Jester. In that What a sense Evergrey does contribute? neither so much, neither so little, alone enough like to be worthy of premiere in the noted one I seal Hall of Sermon. The good pleasure on compossitive in evidence in the nine songs of the disk makes of Evergrey a guessed right option and without risk some for the interested ones in this style so well exploded by the laborious Scandinavian musicians and if I tell them that the production is responsibility of Andy Laroque I believe that it will no longer be necessary to speak of the final sound (... simply perfect). Notices that said:     "songs", does that appear as something important in the concept Evergrey, the synthesis idea... betting to the subtlety before to the efectisism, leaving that the aggressiveness in hands of??? does he have the fair dose and doesn't the song evaporate this way, in gross energy. ??? does he know how to compose very good riff, characteristic of other times (am I thinking of Alex Skolnick of Testament), and does keep some you line melodic that looses in the fair moment, do  listen "The Corey Curses" and for sure we will agree. Something more important: What does it distinguish them of the crowd? From the individual thing, the works of the voice captained for??? that allows to consolidate an own identity going away that the obvious shift comparisons (although to be bad it could poke in my auditory memory already finding some aftertaste to those forgotten voices of Sykes and Coverdale); do I say that the voice of???, does have a turn of almost unheard expresivity, the pibe he really sings very well... "Solitude Within", "The Shocking Truth", "The Speaks to the Dead", "When Darkness Fall" some of the topics are in those that the contrast between sharp violas and the voice of a??? does wounded make sentimentally elevate the quality of the disk. The rest of Evergrey carries out a correct work: ?????? and??? keyboardist, drummer and bassist, do they complete, like he said up, being to the service of the songs. Did I leave for the end, does but deserve to be very outstanding, does Words urinate nothing a beautiful ballad in the one that??? does he cheer up with some saxo melodies, and what for me the best theme in the disk is " Damnation " with the pick of aggressiveness and expression of Evergrey... these themes the ends of "S+D+T" are the great premiere of Evergrey for Hall of Sermon, disk that will be well remembered when the history allows them to arm an extensive discography of those to request them that they publish to the specialized magazines.
