Cziglan István

"Seven Gates Of Alhambra"

(Periferic 64:14 1999)

The great guitarist of Solaris died at the end of 1998, little before the band published "Nostradamus". Cziglan had begun to work in its own pieces, and to its death these remained unpublished. The remaining members of Solaris recovered the pieces and they decided to finish or re to fix some themes for the edition of the album of Cziglan. It is so three of the topics, "Personal Gravity", "April" and "Seven Gates of Alhambra" was altered in relation to the form in that Cziglan had left them, staying the rest of the material in its original form.

The disk is eclectic, but of a very high level. Certain themes have that air "Solaris" for their mixture of classic music, sounds electronic and guessed right and overwhelming guitar passages.

The synthesizers prevail in "Tango Tango" (remembering to "Martian Chronicles's" first section), and in "Bangkok" although this comes closer more to Jarre or Tangerine Dream with a more commercial rhythm that the atmospheric "Tango..." on the other hand "Old Lady With Cat" is an extensive theme of classic influence, only carried out in keyboards, of a lot of moving load.

But of the big themes of the disk they are the hypnotic "Personal Gravity" that captures in their extensive development of more than seventeen minutes; "April", a moving topic worthy of the most moving passages in Solaris and the magic atmosphere of "Seven Gates of Alhambra" of changing tone and of encircling climate, although also with prevalence of the synthesizers interpreted by Cziglan. The melancholic and dark "Swan Song" (with a beautiful work in electric guitar) closes the properly this album, since three bonus tracks makes it with the CD.

The first of them is a light divertimento, "For Beginners…", a circus festival exercise that justifies their category of bonus tracks, while both remaining they are new abbreviated versions of "April" and "Personal Gravity" that give a new form of appreciating them.

This musical testament of Cziglan offers beautiful musical passages, of great feeling, and some moments with styles that it will surprise to several.

The edition is beautiful, with a digipack of special cardboard and box container of beautiful presentation that it conforms a worthy testimony of the facet creative singular of one of the best musicians in the world.
