At present, the chief domestic telematics projects under way are the Jeju Telematics Model City, and the Telematics Information Center. Plus these efforts, mobile communication business providers as well as auto makers are looking to telematics to pioneer new markets and provide added value to customers. In the case of residential, automobile and mobile communication applications, providers began offering navigation as well as traffic information services in 2001. Moreover, owing to the rise of various telematics service business providers in the before and after-markets, the range of services being offered is expanding. Tough competition lies ahead for providers.
