Milosevic, Saddam trials both flawed: US lawyer

BELGRADE: The war crimes trial of late Yugoslav leader Slobodan Milosevic and the legal process against former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein were "flawed," a former US attorney general said Friday. "Both commanders were courageous enough to fight more powerful countries," said Ramsey Clark, who served under former US president Lyndon Johnson, after paying respects to Milosevic's body in Belgrade ahead of his weekend funeral. The member of the International Committee to Defend Slobodan Milosevic, which brings together politicians and legal experts, arrived here from Iraq after two days of hearings in the trial against Saddam. "Both trials are marred with injustice, both are flawed," said Clark. "History will prove Milosevic was right. Charges are just that, charges. The trial did not have facts," he insisted. Appearing at the communist-era Revolution Museum in Belgrade where Milosevic's coffin has been on display for two days, Clark was enthusiastically greeted by the former strongman's supporters. afp
