Public lectures last around 1 hour, including time for questions from the audience. No prior knowledge of the subject is expected. Unless otherwise stated all public lectures are held at the Royal Society and are free to attend. Tickets are not usually required, and seats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

ExhibitionExhibition

The annual Summer Science Exhibition, usually held in the first week of July, comprises around 20 exhibits competitively selected from research organisations, universities and industry throughout the UK. The exhibits are chosen to display the UK’s best science, engineering and technology in an approachable, hands-on and interactive way. And what makes this exhibition unique is that the exhibits are staffed by the researchers themselves. Admission is free and no advance booking is required although parties of ten or more are asked to notify the Society.

Prize LecturePrize Lecture

Prize lectures are awarded to individual scientists in recognition of their outstanding contribution to a particular area of science, engineering or technology. The lectures themselves last around 1 hour, and some prior knowledge of the subject area is expected. Unless otherwise stated all prize lectures are held at the Royal Society and are free to attend. Tickets are not usually required, and seats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Society’s scientific discussion meetings address areas of rapidly developing, inter-disciplinary research. Although all are welcome to attend, these meetings are aimed at those with considerable knowledge of the subject area. Unless otherwise stated, these meetings take place at the Royal Society and are free to attend, although pre-registration is essential.
