Miloslav Ransdorf has been born on February 15th, 1953 in Rakovník, Czech Republic. He has studied in 1972-1977 Philosophical Faculty of Charles Universty in Prague. PhDr. in 1978, CSc. in 1982. 1977-1984 he worked as the assistant professor in the department of philosophy in the framework of this Philosophical Faculty (specialized in ancient and medieval philosophy). In following period, 1984-1992, he has been involved in the Institute of Forecasting of Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, preparing the concept of economic and social reforms. Beside of the history of philosophy his main subject of research was the theory of social development. He published several books and studies, as well as translations. His principal books are "Chapters from the Genesis of Hussite Ideology" (Prague 1986), "Zdeněk Nejedlý" (Prague 1988) "The Roots of American Political Culture" (Prague 1989), "John Hus" (Prague 1993), "The Man of Great Desire. Comenius against the Streaming of History" (Prague 1995)"The New Reading of Marx I" (Prague 1996), "Che Guevara. The Man of Conscience" (Prague 1997), "Czech by Choice. The militant Rationalist Kurt Konrad" (Prague 1998), "They Looked for A More Just World I. From Luther to Jefferson" (Prague 2000). Under preparation are several books on ancient Greek philosophy, medieval philosophy and the second volume of his Marx, as well as the second book of his history of radical social thought.

In 1990 he has been elected to Federal Assembly of Czechoslovakia, 1992 reelected (budget committee). 1993-2004 Deputy Chairman of Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia Central Committee (international affairs). 1996-2004 member of the Chamber of Deputies of Czech Parliament, 1998-2004 Deputy Chairman of the International Affairs Committee in this Parliament, 2002-2004 member of European Integration Committee. 2003-2004 in the position of the observer to EP, after May 1st MEP. Elected MEP in June European elections 2004, 1st Deputy Chairman if ITRE committee, substitute in the DEVE committee. He is married (his wife Vlasta Ransdorfová is the director of the Czech Center in Sofia, Bulgaria), and has one daughter (Aneta, born on December 5th, 1990). He is able to speak several languages, e.g. Afrikaans, Dutch, German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Hungarian, Russian, Yiddish, Latin, Greek.
