Spegazzini's Italian publications concerned the fungal parasites of grapevines, and some work on the macrofungi of northern Italy. In his subsequent work, he named a tremendous number of fungi, very quickly, in South America, provoking some bitter criticism from Lloyd. Whatever one may think of his work on fleshy fungi, he also did a lot of high-quality (and very early) work on the Laboulbeniales, collaborating long-distance with Roland Thaxter. As the vast majority of the fungi he named are tropical, none of his discoveries have yet appeared on this website.
