The French people have maintained the name "OMAHA" for this beach in memory of the troops that fought and died here.
The beach has no commercialisation on it, the whole area is serene, you feel as though you shouldn't walk on the beach, in-fact no one seems to. Below the bluff is a coast road along which are many memorials.

AMERICAN CEMETERY OMAHA BEACH

Overlooking Omaha Beach, the American cemetery contains 9,386 graves, each one with a cross perfectly aligned. The cemetery is on a 170-acre plot which is conductive to meditation and remembrance. There is a chapel and memorial within the grounds.

Below is a link to a very special web site about one man's experience of his visit to the American Beaches in Normandy. You must read this story!!
