Elton John will tie the knot with his longtime partner David Furnish on December 21, on the first day civil partnerships of gay couples will be recognised in the UK.

According to the New York Daily News, Sir Elton said the ceremony will be a low-key one with only his and Furnish's parents in attendance, though the after-party promised to be a bash.

"It'll be a very small family affair, and then in the evening there'll be a soiree somewhere, which we have yet to work out," he told Attitude magazine.

Furnish, a Canadian-born filmmaker, and John have been together for 12 years.

John has publicly credited Furnish with helping him overcome addictions to alcohol and drugs.
