| History of Services: 26 November 1934 Hull laid down. 29 November 1936 Launched. 25 July 1938 Commissioned as Seaplane Carrier. 4 January 1942 Heavily damaged by B17 at Davao, Philippines. January 1942 Covered Japanese landing in the East Indies and Gilbert Island. August 1942 Battle of Eastern Soloman. She was damaged during the operation. 1942 ~ 1944 Converted into aircraft carrier at Sasebo. 1 January 1944 Commissioned and assigned to CarDiv 3. 25 October 1944 Operation "SHO" ~ Battle of Leyte Gulf. She formed part of the Ozawa's decoy force with ZUIHO, ZUIKAKU and CHIYODA. She was sunk by aircrafts from USS Essex and USS Lexington. |
