Double Tournois

Double Tournois
Back    Next

Found in the lawn trenches at Holyrood, this exciting find is a Double Tournois, a French coin dated 1634. Our example was issued by Gaston, brother of Louis XIII, and a man with another impressive title; the Usufruitier of Donbes. This basically meant that he enjoyed the fruits of the region – he collected the taxes and so on.
