Umeå IK women’s soccer team was founded in 1985 and has since then developed to be the world leading club for women’s soccer. Despite of the growing competition within women’s soccer – today there are 40 million practicians through out the world – Umeå IK is today the most well known and successful women’s soccer club in the world, both on and off the soccer field. The team contains among other players the Brazilian soccer artist who earned the title "the world’s best player 2006", Marta.
