Tennis NT is the state administration body for tennis in the Northern Territory.  It is a member association of Tennis Australia and is a non-profit organisation that seeks to provide tennis opportunities NT wide.

Talent Search Follow Up Day

18 athletes from the Metropolitan Region took part in the first session of the Talent Search Follow Up, held at the Gardens Tennis Complex. Athletes were involved in a variety of match-like situations under the watchful eye of Rohan Fisher - Athlete Development Manager/Coach Tennis NT/SA, Pat Coburn - Head Coach DTC Sports, Ben Milner - Head Coach Gardens Tennis Complex, Sam Giess - Junior Development Coach DTC Sports, Ashlee Brown - Former 16&U National Champion and Kassandra Dunser - current Tennis Australia Scholarship holder.

The group will attend a second Follow Up session on the 9 November 2008.

Information on future Talent Search programs across the Northern Territory will be released shortly.



Dunser named for European Tour

Dunser named for European Tour
NTIS tennis squad athlete Kassandra Dunser has been selected by Tennis Australia in their team of 5 girls and 5 boys to tour Europe in May. Dunser’s selection is reward for a year of consistently high performances in which she appeared in five semi finals and a final in singles in her past 6 Optus National championships. Remained unbeaten in 2007 in nine singles matches when playing for the Territory in 12 and under team events. Received the coaches choice award for work ethic and dedication at the Melbourne Davis Cup Tennis Foundation 12s High Performance Training Camp in December 2007.

Hurst continues winning ways

Hurst continues winning ways

Matilda Hurst who is in devastating form after her back to back wins at the Schweppes Junior Carnival and the BankSA Red Centre Classic in Alice Springs earlier this month, has continued to finish in the winner’s circle with another successful tournament win at the Seaside April Age Championships. Given the top seeding in the Girls’ 14 Singles, Matilda did not disappoint with a straight sets victory over the Number 2 seed, Brooke Rischbieth 6-2 6-2, who accounted for fellow Territorian and Number 3 seed Emily Webb in the semi-finals. Matilda backed up her singles victory with a solid performance in the doubles final, were she teamed with Kate Dorman for a 6-4 6-2 win over the Number 3 seeds, Rebecca Jeffery and Kelsey Williams.

Matilda will now join Emily Webb and Kassandra Dunser at the Tennis Depot Open #2 starting on the 25 April.


NT Players Results from the Autumn Nationals

Kassandra Dunser was the number one seed at the 2008 Optus 12s Autumn Nationals in both singles and doubles. On her way to the singles final Kassandra disposed of some high quality players including doubles partner Brooke Rischbieth in the quarterfinals. In the final Kassandra came up against an inform number 2 seed in Celine Lenertz, but unfortunately went down 6-2 6-1. In the doubles Dunser and Rischbieth came from behind to win 10-8 in the match tiebreaker of there semi finals, and repeated the same feat in the finals coming from a set down to win 13-11 in the match tiebreaker. 

Emily Webb had a first round loss in the Girls' 14s, but recovered extremely well for a finals berth in the consolation draw. In the girls doubles Webb teamed with fellow teammate, Emma Labessa to reach the round of 16.

Kiera Halicek competing in the Optus 12s Nationals, made the quarterfinals of the consolation draw in the Girls' 12 Singles. In the girls doubles Kiera and partner Morgan Brand were victorious in the consolation final 9-8.

Matilda Hurst reached the round of 32 in the Girls' 14 singles. Seeded 3 in the girls doubles Matilda and partner Georgina Carswell made the semi-finals.

Emma Labessa made the quarterfinals of the Girls' 14 singles consolation. Emma also teamed with Emily Webb to reach the round of 16 in the Girls' 14 Doubles.

Ben Lye competing in his first Optus 12s Nationals had some early round loses, but finished the week off well with a finals appearance in the southeast draw. Ben also made the quarterfinals of the Boys' 12 doubles consolation.

Tennis NT Presentation Dinner
Kassandra Dunser became the youngest winner of the Austin Asche Trophy on the weekend at the Annual Tennis NT Presentation Dinner. Kassandra’s major achievements for last year included representing Australia in the Trans-Tasman Test against New Zealand, in which Kassandra was the number one player. Kassandra also made history by reaching the final of the National Teams Event in the 12s girls, with partner Kiera Halicek. Kassandra also scored tournament victories at the 12s Rod Laver Championships in Brisbane and the TCAV age titles on Clay in Melbourne. Kassandra also reached the semi-finals of 2 Optus National Championships. Kassandra finished the year ranked 226 in the Australian Rankings, the highest girl 12 years and under.
