Problem to be Solved:

Do plant hormones affect the growth of a plant?

Hypothesis:

Yes, I think that plant hormones will affect the growth of a plant because of research I’ve done.

Procedure:

1) put soil in two different pots
2) plant two bean seeds in each pot
3) put pots in the glass dish
4) water each pot 1/3 cup of water today and then every other day
5) record the height every day you water the plants
6) once there is one plant growing in each pot put a little bit of plant hormones on the leaves with the cotton swab (on the day you water them)
7) record any differences between the two plants such as the color, height, condition, and growth
8) repeat steps 4-7 until the end of the experiment

List of materials:
Bean seeds, plant hormones, plant pots, glass dish, measuring stick (ruler), water, measuring cup (1/3 cup), and cotton swabs

Control group:
The bean plant without plant hormones is the control group.

Variable(s):
The bean plant with plant hormones on it is the variable.

Conclusion:

My hypothesis was correct; plant hormones do affect the plant and the plant’s growth. I could not tell if it affected how fast it grew compared to the other plant though, because the plant without hormones started growing too late. Also I noticed that the plant with plant hormones grew "curly". Once I stopped watering my plants the one with plant hormones died really fast. It would be interesting to find out why.

Biblical Application:

My project was on plant growth and what they need to grow. Isaiah 17:11 says, "In the day you plant it you carefully fence it in, and in the morning you bring your seed to blossom; but the harvest will be a heap in a day of sickliness and incurable pain." It is saying that you need to care for a plant once it is planted so it can be a healthy plant. In order to become a healthy plant it needs enough water, sunlight, and nutrients from the soil. Just like a plant needs things to be healthy, a Christian "needs" things to be healthy. In order to be a healthy Christian you should read the Bible, pray, go to church, do justly, love mercy and kindness, and be humble.
