Overview of promotion system

In Portugal, electricity generated from renewable energy sources is mainly promoted through a price-regulation in terms of a guaranteed feed-in tariff, which consists partly of fixed rates and partly of an amount calculated by a statutorily set formula. Apart from that, the purchase of systems that generate renewable electricity is promoted through a reduced VAT.

Overview of access to the grid

In Portugal, access of electricity generated from renewable energy sources to the grid is subject to the general provisions of energy law. Access to the grid shall be granted according to the principle of non-discrimination. Renewable-energy-sourced electricity is not granted priority access.
