Brother Rayaale, since your militia rolled into LasAnod 457 days ago, the people of Sool had been living in dire straits. Due to your illegal incursions and aggressive behavior LasAnod is today a haunted house. The bulk of her former inhabitants have fled their homes and the remaining are terrorized day and night.

In contravention of the rule of the land, you've turned the lives of our nomads and villagers into a nightmare and reduced Sool  into a no man's land. This is sad and we can no longer watch from the sidelines.

After careful evaluation and exhaustive examination of the candidates vying for the top position in the upcoming presidential election for the autonomous region of the Puntland state of Somalia, the leadership of NSPU endorsed Gen. Abdullahi Ahmed Jama.

General Jama has a unique and impressive background that stands out: Trained in Somalia as a teacher, as a management administrator in Egypt and the United States of America, an achieved military leader, all these make him the embodiment of a cosmopolitan and global citizen with a view that understands how the rest of the world thinks and lives, thus defying the narrow and myopic world view that is a common trait to most contemporary Somali politicians.

"Somaliland": End of the Road to Secession

For Immediate Release
January 19, 2008
The leader of the secessionist Administration in Hargeisa, Col. Dahir Riyale Kahin, formerly of Siad Barre's dreaded 'National Security Service', paid a visit last week to Washington, D.C amid speculations and euphoria in Hargeisa that the United States was on the verge of finally extending diplomatic recognition to the breakaway region of our country. This provoked an angry response from pro-unity Somalis who demonstrated in front of the State Department protesting against presumed machinations to dismember their country; and they handed a protest note to the Department.

The Somalia's Last Foreign Minister Warns Somaliland on Secession

January 18, 2008
In the wake of U.S. and other international troop withdrawals, Somalia faces even more problems than the absence of central government, endemic clan rivalries, civil strife and the lingering specter of food shortages. There is also the prospect of a formal breakup of Somalia into two separate nations based upon the former colonial boundaries between Italian-occupied Somalia and British Somaliland.

In addition, the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) should pay attention to the suffering of thousands internally displaced persons (IDPs) who were ousted from Las Anod, the capital of Sool Region, by militia loyal to the secessionists enclave (Somaliland) in the North West of our country.

Ato Tamrat Nega, an Ethiopian journalist, published an article titled “Meles Proposes a Two State Solution for Somalia” on Wardheernews.com on October 28, 2007, and the article appeared on other Somali websites as well. The article informed its readers that Ato Meles Zenawi, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, having been frustrated by the worsening situation in Somalia, formed a committee of Ethiopian experts on Somalia to review the obstacles to success and propose to him viable solutions. The Committee, reportedly chaired by Dr. Alemu Tekede, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, comprised senior officers of the ruling EPRDF, several generals, as well as security and intelligence officers. The Committee tendered its report after five months of deliberations with the following recommendations:

In the aftermath of Somaliland’s capture of Las Anod, and the deafening cacophony that followed, it is refreshing to hear the voice of the people as expressed through their own traditional leaders and elders.  The Bo’ameh message is loud and clear: Somaliland must get out.

The capture of Laascaanood by the secessionist militia of Somaliland and their local collaborators has, as was to be expected, unleashed widespread jubilations and unbecoming gloating among all sections of the population in the separatist heartland. Indulging in vainglorious heroics and phoney triumphalism has always been innately ingrained in the psyche of the people of that part of Somalia. Although there is nothing new about this, it has this time gone over the top.
