Home arrow Emissions Equipment

Measuring the emissions has been crucially important in the development of cleaner burning cook stoves. The lab staff could see in real time how the stoves performed. And, they could look at the total amount of emissions made during a cooking task.

But, we knew that measuring the performance of new stove designs in the field was also necessary. The lab equipment system was much too cumbersome and too expensive to be practical for in-field use. It cost more than $30,000 and had to be tuned up every week or so.

After two years of work, Nordica MacCarty and Damon Ogle have developed and begun production of two simpler, portable devices that can measure the performance of stoves in the field. The easy-to-use PEMS and IAP meter accurately measure emissions and are much less expensive.

This section tells about these exciting devices. Each device's profile includes a link to its instruction manual.
