Our mission is to provide 20' and 40' containers full of stoves and stove parts to distributors worldwide. In a few months, we will have an inventory of stoves and stove parts in the United States. Right now, everything--even samples--comes directly from the factory in China.

Since 1976, Aprovecho Research Center has provided technical assistance to improved stove projects in over 60 countries around the world. We found that sometimes it can be difficult to make fuel efficient, low emission biomass burning stoves using local materials and manufacturers. Making insulative combustion chambers and affordable cast iron stove parts can be especially challenging.

The Aprovecho staff looked for a long time to find a factory that could make high quality Rocket stoves at the lowest price possible. We were very lucky to find a Chinese factory that has been selling millions of stoves for decades in China. Aprovecho worked closely with the factory to make the best quality Rocket stoves. The Rocket stoves are now available and can be shipped to a port near you directly from China.

Nordica MacCarty and Damon Ogle spent two years in the Aprovecho lab inventing simple and accurate equipment to measure stove emissions. StoverSource sells a portable emissions hood (PEMS) that captures all emissions and provides a real time record of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and particulate matter. The hood system can also be used for Global Warming studies. For studies of indoor air pollution, a small box system (IAP Meter) is launched from a lap top and records the same pollutants for up to a week without recharging the batteries.

Aprovecho started StoverSource to market these stoves, stove parts and emission equipment!

One of the heroes of the Stove Movement is Dr. Tom Reed, who has inspired all of us for many years. Many, many people are trying very hard to relieve suffering by providing better stoves to the two to three billion people in the world who use biomass for cooking. The Partnership for Clean Indoor Air is leading the international effort to use biomass more effectively and safely. Improved cooking stoves can help to reduce deforestation, to reduce the serious health impacts of inhaling smoke, and improved cook stoves can reduce the Global Warming effects that are threatening our planet.

Dr. Reed has been reminding folks that it will take lots of stoves to significantly address these problems. We hope that our efforts can help to create a more sustainable future.
