Mountain View High School is holding its annual Homecoming picnic, game, and dance today. This year’s theme is Hollywood, allowing students to attend the dance in either glamorous red carpet attire, or dressed as characters from their favorite movies.

The Mountain View High School Book Club was recognized by the national organization Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) this year. The club was one of 15 book clubs nationwide to receive this recognition after filling out an application and sending in sample book reviews.

Mountain View High School alumnus and Pulitzer Prize winning Washington Post writer Jose Antonio Vargas spoke with Rich Fischer, the former MVLA Superintendent, at the Spartan Theatre on October 9th about how he rose from being a MVHS Oracle staff member to the award winning writer for a major newspaper and his experiences following the trail of the 2008 Presidential Campaign. Vargas also talked about the importance of teachers who care and how they impact a student’s life, and how the Internet influences life, especially in politics.

Mountain View High School counselors Carol Bastian and Linda Schortz visited Harvard University from June 22nd to June 27th to learn about college admissions and how to help students with their applications. Counselors, admissions officers and secondary school professionals from around the country journeyed to the 48th Harvard Summer Institute on College Admissions. This program helped the counselors develop skills to improve on their jobs and find new approaches to education.
