Salaries for NATO International Civilians are free from income tax, regardless of the staff member’s nationality. There are other allowances which may be payable depending on the status of the staff member and/or his/her family, e.g.

 

  • Head of Household Allowance (6% of Basic Salary)

  • Dependent Children’s Allowance (payable up to age 18, or up to age 26 if in full-time education) (set amount)

  • Expatriation Allowance (18% of Basic Salary)

  • Dependent Children’s Expatriation Allowance (set amount)

  • Rental Allowance (formula dependent on size of family and rent)

  • Education Allowance (up to approx. 70% of costs reimbursable)

NATO International Civilians benefit from a private health insurance scheme and pension plan. These cost the staff member 7.134% of Gross Salary and 8 % of Basic Salary respectively. On departure, the staff member would be reimbursed all his/her pension contributions, plus those made by the HQ (12% of Basic Salary), plus accumulated interest.

 

Staff members are entitled to 32 working days leave per year, plus 8 days home leave and travelling time for expatriates, together with the appropriate national holidays.

The standard Application Form, quoting the post title and the vacancy number, should be submitted via standard mail not later than the closing date. E-mail applications need to be followed up with the original application via standard mail to:

One copy of certificates certifying the highest level of education required should be included with the application form. Only applications from nationals of a member country of NATO can be accepted.

 

All applications should be sent as WORD documents. The documents, if scanned, should be saved in a JPG format. The documentation should not be attached to an Internet link i.e. personal website.

 

Spontaneous applications for non-advertised positions cannot be taken into consideration and will not be answered.

Description of Vocational Training

 

Basic:

Vocational training which might take up to one year if conducted in-service but probably lasting 1-3 months full time,  e.g. training for secretaries, word processing skills. May lead to a formal qualification.

Intermediate:

Training which might take more than one year on a part time basis but probably lasting 3-6 months on a full time basis. Usually leads to a formal qualification.

Higher:

Vocational training which takes more than one year on a part time basis but probably lasting 6-18 months on a full time basis. This level of training almost always leads to some form of technical or professional certification, e.g. computer programmer.

Advanced:

This vocational training is almost always full time and leads to a professional qualification. It lasts for one academic year or more, e.g. accountancy training, interpreter training, teacher training, some forms of professional engineer training.

Description of Standard Automated Data Processing (ADP) Knowledge

 

Basic:

Must be familiar with standard usage protocols, and be able to use software with limited assistance.

Working:

Must be familiar with standard usage protocols, and be able to use software without supervision for all normal requirements.

Advanced:

Must be familiar with standard usage protocols, and be able to execute advanced tasks without supervision or further training.

Language Testing

 

Non-serving short-listed candidates are subject to formal tests on essential and/or desirable proficiencies in NATO’s official languages i.e. English and French (only in non-mother-tongue).

 

Description of Standard Language Proficiency:

 

Level 1 

Elementary

Level 2 

Fair (limited working)

Level 3 

Good (minimum professional)

Level 4 

Very Good (full professional)

Level 5 

Excellent (native speaker/bilingual)
