Hypothesis
Water with the smashed tums will allow the plant to grow the healthiest and the plain water will allow it to grow the tallest.  Tums help us stay healthy and it should do the same for plants because of the calcium that is in it.  Also water helps us grow so it should do the same for plants.
Abstract
The question for my science project was if different solutions affected seed germination and growth.  I picked this experiment because I wanted to see if it mattered what kind of solutions you watered plants with.  I thought that Tums smashed in water would allow the plant to grow the tallest.  I thought this because Tums help us get better when we were sick and keep us healthy.  I thought Tums would do this because of the calcium in it.

To perform this experiment, I had to go through many steps.  First, I had to fill each pot I had with dirt, 4 centimeters below the top.  Second, I put three lima beans in each pot a couple centimeters down.  Next, I labeled each pot with a post it note saying which solution it is.  Then, I put 25mL of water in one pot, and put 10mL of sugar mixed in with 25mL of water in another pot.  Next, I smashed two Tums and put them in 25mL of water, I put that in the third pot.  In the last pot I put an egg shell smashed in 25mL of water.  Then, I lined up the pots by the window, and for the next 15 days I repeated steps 4,5,6, and 7.  Finally I recorded all my results.

In my results, the egg shell plant grew the tallest.  I figured out that this happened because egg shells are extra fertilization and it makes it easier for the plant to grow.  My results were helpful, because I figured out that some foods or medicines that help us can kill plants.  We shouldn't feed plants just anything, but be careful with what we water them with.

Materials
  • 1. 2000mL of Cold tap water
  • 2. 200mL of Sugar
  • 3. 30 tums(2 smashed in each 25mL of water in the beaker)
  • 4. 15 Egg shells(1 smashed in each 25mL of water in the
  •    beaker)
  • 5. 4 pots, 4(in) in diameter, 4(in) deep
  • 6. Indoor dirt, 2500mL
  • 7. 12 lima bean seeds
  • 8. 1000 mL beaker

Procedure
    1. Fill each pot with dirt, 4cm below the top.
    2. Put three lima bean seeds in each pot, 4cm deep.
    3. Label each pot with a post it note saying which solution it
        is.
    4. Put 25mL of cold tap water into one pot.
    5. Put 10mL of sugar into 25mL of cold tap water.
    6. Put that solution into another pot.
    7. Smash two tums and mix into the 25mL of water.
8.Put the solution in another pot.
9.Smash one egg shell and mix into 25mL of water.
    10. Put the solution in the last pot.
    11. Line them up by the window near the sun.
    12. Repeat steps 4,5,6, and 7 every day for 15 days.
    13. Record results.

Conclusion
My hypothesis was wrong.  I thought the plant with the Tums would grow the tallest, but the plant with the egg shells grew the tallest, at 31 centimeters.  The plant with just water grew 7 centimeters.  The other two plants did not grow at all.  All this happened because eggshells are more fertilization, so that plant grew the tallest.  The sugar and Tum plants didn't grow at all because of the acid in them.   Plants only feed themselves what is necessary and not food that might get them sick, and that sometimes medicines that are really good for humans, are poisonous for plants.
