Become a Supporter of the Australian Breastfeeding Association
Why does the Australian Breastfeeding Association need supporters?
Supporters tax deductible donations provide valuable financial
support for the Association’s work in educating, supporting
and encouraging mothers who wish to breastfeed.
Your support adds influence when approaching Government
and other policy makers about breastfeeding legislation. As an
informed member of your community, you help to encourage
acceptance of breastfeeding as the normal way babies are fed.
What your donation does:
In Australia, breastfeeding duration still falls short of the
recommendation by the World Health Organization. This is to
exclusively breastfeed for six months and then continue for
two years and beyond with the addition of appropriate solid
foods. Although 90% of babies are initially breastfed, less than
half are receiving any breastmilk at all at six months.
Your donation:
- Keeps you in touch with up to date news from the
Association through our Supporters Newsletter three times
a year
- Helps us to empower women, allowing them to decide to
breastfeed for longer
- Increases our opportunities to influence Government on
breastfeeding issues
- Gives you the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping
to build a healthier Australia.
What the Association offers:
- Counselling through our 7 day breastfeeding Helpline,
face-to-face with counsellors at group meetings, and via
email through our website.
- Information through our bi-monthly magazine
- Access to the Lactation Resource Centre
- Community education, including antenatal classes
- Breastfeeding publications for parents and health
professionals
- Advocacy on breastfeeding policies in the work place and
wider community
