The gothic lolita bible is fun to have. Thank you for bringing it to the USA for those of us who want to be loli's but cant get ahold of any of the dresses.

11.09.2008 12:00 AM

10.25.2008 12:00 AM

i want to buy this book but i want to know is this book for girls?

09.12.2008 12:00 AM

KAIWAII....hai...gomen no...it's just i'm half japanese and i love seeing japanese fashion >.

07.11.2008 12:00 AM

i love lolita fashions...got to get this book..looks awesome...will this book come on sale..??

07.01.2008 12:00 AM

Sooooooo disappointed. I've bought three of the original; $13.20 each, roughly 135 pages, and over half of them how-to's. Those are worth it, and I can't even read Japanese. This was a major let-down. No manga, thanks. Direct translation please?

06.25.2008 12:00 AM

Hmmm I will get a copy when it comes out in the UK but I think I'm still going to get Japanese copies. It's great that it's in English but...I'm not so sure after reading that many Japanese are worried this will make a lot of Ito-loli's. Just my opinion though!

06.17.2008 12:00 AM

does anyone know what the size of the bunny ear cape is supposed to be so I have a better idea of how much to expand the patten?

06.14.2008 12:00 AM

Thank you for translating this mook! I hope to see more advanced patterns in the future. I bought this primarily for the patterns and was a little disappointed that they were only for accessories.

06.05.2008 12:00 AM

Pretty good, though there seemed to be an awful lot more Western content than I was expecting...

06.03.2008 12:00 AM

:-\ I'd have preferred more of the patterns and "how-to's" had been translated and put in there. Is there any chance that future ones will have more of that sort of content? Or at least hosted on TokyoPop's site? Right now, it's still looking like I'll have to keep buying the Japanese ones, and keep working hard on my Japanese just to make use of the patterns and "how-to's". Oh well... At least these will help me get a point across to friends that it's not a subculture about dressing up as children to sex old men who are hebephiles.

05.13.2008 12:00 AM

A great handbook for any budding loli.

05.05.2008 12:00 AM

04.17.2008 12:00 AM

Can you subscribe to it? I'd like that better:)

04.17.2008 12:00 AM

I LOVE THIS MAG! Now I can finally read one in one day rather then buy the Japanese ones where it takes me three! :P Love Gothi/Loli style!!

04.10.2008 12:00 AM

I am so excited, I love how its more of a U.S. version instead of just a translation of the pre-existing magazine, whoot for east meets west!

04.04.2008 12:00 AM

I'm really happy that it showed girls from Oregon! I live in WA so it's close enough for me to be excited about. Maybe I can get WA into a later issue? I almost cried when I saw Mana. He is LOVE.

04.04.2008 12:00 AM

03.24.2008 12:00 AM

i want to get it

03.23.2008 12:00 AM

This mook was pretty cool to flip through, but it really irritated me with all of the grammatical and spelling errors. Next time, use spell check before you print a mook.

03.23.2008 12:00 AM

They should offer a subscription for this, otherwise I don't think i'll be able to get it. Seriously, if there's going to be more issues, then we really should be able to obtain them through mail without having to order every issue. (Of course, ordering them from Amazon would boost credit, but that's beside the point) Some of us, losers as we may be, don't have the internet at home so it's very difficult to do so.

03.19.2008 12:00 AM

I know you can get them at Borders book store in the graphic novel section

Does anyone know where we send our own lolita pictures to get them into the magazine? I know that before volume 1 came out, they were asking for photos, and I never sent mine... Now I can't find article or whatever where they said where to send them.

03.19.2008 12:00 AM

where can u buy this at? borders?? barnes and noble?? neone know??

03.15.2008 12:00 AM

I love this magazine. I went and bought it as soon as I could. It's great. I'm happy that I can now read the magazine. I like how they give you the templates for some items to make. But it was a b**** to take out without tearing it to shreads. But after about 5 - minutes and a craft knife I got it out with only two spots that got a little cut in the middle.

03.12.2008 12:00 AM

It's very nice. Most of the material is from previous loli bibles so if you've been looking at the older issues you can finaly read the content. But The content is older like from 2005. You can definatly tell the original us material from the original japanese material. the original articles are put on a sold color background and have pictures haphazzardly pasted across the page. But besides that I enjoyed the actual content of the articles. All in all it's a good investment and hey if enough ppl buy they might be able to hire a better person for the cover and teh layout of the mag! ha!

03.10.2008 12:00 AM

Zomg! I just bought a copy today, and I love it! The photographs are amazing, and I love that there are patterns included. I can't wait until the 2nd one.

03.09.2008 12:00 AM

I am soo happy it is finally brought to the states!..yet I am worried that theymight mess up a few things and translation might be off..but all in all...it looks safe!^O^

03.08.2008 12:00 AM

As an avid collector of Gothic & Lolita bibles I'm so incredibly disappointed at how poor the graphics layout for the cover is. Hopefully it's looks are deceiving because if the content is not outstanding then I don't think I would even pay for it I'd rather continue to collect them in Japanese. Tis a sad day for the person who hired the artist to design that cover... truly disappointing

03.04.2008 12:00 AM

wow a lot of mixed reviews, I'm glad to say I've never read or seen the japanese version so I ADORE my english gothic & lolita bible! I've gotten a lot of my friends to go out to get a copy too. But I think it's wonderful, and so what if it can't compare to the original, we're in two different culturas and they are trying their best to make it as relevant to us as they can, I really persoanlly appriciate all the effort and hard work they're putting into this to try and give us what we want.

03.04.2008 12:00 AM

While the content may be good ( I am unsure yet since I am not getting my copy til this weekend's anime convention) It still does not excuse that the graphic design for the cover is terrible. I'm glad that they considered translating it, but what's the point of changing the content. People who originally collected them aren't interested in something Japanese that's been americanized, the sole purpose for our unhealthy obsession with EGL and Japanese culture makes us want the original with it's original content. It's like reading a summarized manga with a lot of interesting parts cut out. The fact that they condensed the first 4 volumes into this one and added manga skits to it, just makes it seem like an expensive ShoujoBeat with less manga in it. I don't understand why they would make such drastic changes. Albeit I am glad that a lot of people like it, we need more american fans of GL and I totally support the noobs (we all start somewhere), but it's deceiving for those of us that have been following up on it for a large part of our lives, and I know I'm not the only one who thinks so.

03.04.2008 12:00 AM

i can't wait to get one

03.02.2008 12:00 AM

I'm so excited to see a picture of my friends in this magazine~!

User Reviews
Active Anime
This art book is created from the original Japanese version of it,
having enough photographs, art and information for any type of Lolita,
Gothic, Pirate, Sweet or Punk.
There is no room for disappointment here - all needs are catered to in
this first volume extravaganza detailing the origins of the gothic and
Lolita craze that is sweeping the east and now the west. There is a lot
of mentioning of brand name clothing and jewellery for all types of
Lolita anyone can think of, all complete with frills, bows, lace, socks
and boots.

Featured brands include Naoto Blood, Black Peace Now and Atelier Boz.
But the most astonishing brand is that of punk icon designer Vivienne
Westwood.
Tips on making your own clothing and an insert of patterns for making
your own accessories is at the beginning of the book and useful to any
budding Lolita, from a wolf hat, bunny-ear cape, cat ears, Alice head
band and an Alice tote bag will continue the hours of enjoyment.

This book is not short of stars either as visual kei band members Rame
and Jui are featured, as are Hakuei and O-Jiro of Penicillin, Nana
Kitade, and renowned musician Mana of band Moix Dix Mois, formerly of
Malice Mizer.
There is a mince article in there for readers to send in their
photographs and artwork for inclusion in the pages of each issue, making
it a packed book for fans and new to the genre types.

And if that was not enough, there is extra art, interactive parts and a
special bonus manga.

IN SUMMARY: Superb, this is an essential buy for any Lolita's bookshelf!

More than any other publication, Gothic & Lolita Bible has played an instrumental role in defining the Japanese Lolita style. A quarterly mook (magazine/book hybrid) that's a combination fashion magazine, culture guide, and art book, the Bible caters to fans of two separate but related fashions: Gothic and--to a greater extent--Lolita. Volume 1 of the U.S. edition offers content from four volumes of this definitive Japanese mook for the first time in English, along with exciting original content covering the Gothic and Lolita culture in North America.
