Governor Palin Names Rural Advisor

October 25, 2007, Fairbanks, Alaska – Governor Sarah Palin today named Rhonda McBride as Rural Advisor. Palin made the announcement this morning during a speech at the Alaska Federation of Natives convention in Fairbanks.

McBride, a respected journalist with NBC affiliate KTUU, will join the governor’s office in December. She has extensive experience reporting on Native and rural issues.

As Rural Advisor, McBride will serve as the principal liaison between the governor's office and rural communities, as well as chief advisor to the governor on issues impacting rural Alaska.

“I am delighted that Rhonda will be working on behalf of the citizens of Alaska," said Governor Palin. "Her experience will provide an important link in areas that are essential to rural Alaska, including economic development, land use and energy issues."

Prior to her current position at KTUU, McBride was the news director for KYUK –AM/TV in Bethel and hosted two television shows on KAKM in Anchorage. Before moving to Alaska in 1988, she worked at KOLO-TV in Reno, KTNV-TV in Las Vegas, Nevada and KMVT-TV in Twin Falls, Idaho.

“To me, rural Alaska is the Last Frontier of great story telling,” said McBride. “It's been an honor to share those stories with Channel 2's statewide audience. In many ways, this new job will be similar to reporting - telling rural Alaska's story, to help promote better understanding about the challenges of life in rural Alaska and the exciting possibilities for the future.”

McBride lives in Anchorage with her husband, Michael Faubion, and son, Matthew.
